What is, in your opinion, the friendliest chicken breed?

Hopefully yours will be super friendly! Ours just seemed like nut jobs from the get go. Even as chicks they were a bit bonkers. That's why we thought maybe there was something wrong or off with them. We've generally only heard good things about them, that's why we had a few. Just because ours...

What is, in your opinion, the friendliest chicken breed?

Out of our four we had, three became bullies and no idea as to why. When we removed them from the flock the dynamic changed instantly and a calm settled over the other girls. It was weird. We had figured maybe they were maybe too inbred? They always laid funky shaped eggs no matter what we did...

    Informal research poll on broodiness

We just went through hell week of broodies. Four different black Australorps decided to test the waters last Monday and Tuesday. Then last Thur two of our olive eggers and our Mama on Saturday (good Orpington we let hatch twice). All BAs were back out by Friday, I think, and Goldie and Mama...

    Buff Brahma as they grow

    13 weeks yesterday.

Egg color changes: a pink egg instead of blue/olive.

I've had our olive eggers lay different shades of green, to even a grey before because of the bloom. Same with our Brahmas one lays pink eggs-- heavy bloom. It's fun to watch our eggers as sometimes we get speckles dark mossy greens and the next day we get pale greens (we only have four Oliver...

    Buff Brahma as they grow

Aww poor chick. And our little super fluffy one finally got feathers and looks to be a pullet... Granted, this group seems to be more pure in genetics than our lights brahmas and have more feathers on their feet, so maybe that whole "slow to mature" is true for this group. However if we happen...

Our little flock, Olive Eggers, Buff Orpington, Light Brahma, Black Australorp

Little update! Aside from the damn broodies all are happy and well! And don't mind the littles at all! And they love their new run expansion (details in an article)

    Buff Brahma as they grow

13 weeks tomorrow. And I'm adding Chipmunk (easter egger) to the lineup because she's just too pretty not to share! On the branch with our BBs are Olive eggers who are a week older

    Adventure in Easter Eggers!

Right? It's so weird too! Our little orange/white Dreamsicle we got because her down was a pale grey/creamy color, she looked like a dove grey for the longest time, then poof! Orange lol

    Cream legbar

Could she be laying soft shell eggs and the others are eating the mess? Calcium+vit. D tablets are recommended to maybe give her a boost? Eta even if they have oystershell doesn't mean they eat it lol I have one that nitpicks it lol

    Informal research poll on broodiness

I have 3 that go broody near monthly. We have a large coop/covered run (have an article for reference) Mama- buff Orpington, hatched two broods, plus broody twice just over one year old Black Australorps - have had three separate year old hens go broody, one twice now (two are currently in...
