I wound up putting our little coop in one of those TSC dog pens. With a couple extra panels, makes it a 10'x10' pen. No daytime predators here with our dog. Nighttime, the chickens get cooped up.
Just a thought, I have one of these prefab coops also. The first thing I did before introducing chickens to it was apply Thompsons water seal to the entire coop. I also got some silicone roof sealer and sprayed all of the cheap composite sheeting that was on it. Last but not least, I went back...
I had thought about the deck idea also. I think I'm leaning more to trying to make an extension of their pen to have a separate pool area. Probably best in the long run. I've had the red mulch in the chicken pen for a couple weeks now with no problems. I'll start looking for undyed stuff from...
First off, I put a good layer of bark in chicken coop. I left it out from under the coop cause they like bathe there. Now my duck pen is 6 1/2' x 9'. Their house sits outside the pen so they can have the entire pen space. They keep this area pretty muddy and of course, all the rain we've been...
Welcome to BYC! It's fun watching ducks grow ss they grow soo fast. Lol Ours will be 6 weeks tomorrow. We have predators where we live but our dog likes to lay out by the chicken coop and duck pen. Nothing comes around. We do lock both chickens and ducks up at night tho! Ours are still skidish...
This is our chicken coop on the left and duck coop on the right. The duck coop was empty because they were still in the brooder. Lol We have 4 chickens and 3 ducks.
Yea, my pen is smaller and we really don't get snow here. Extra roosting bars are good. I have an outside one in my chicken pen. Don't need one in the pen I showed, I use this one for my ducks. Lol
That looks great! It looks like the type of pen I bought only bigger and mine has a round top. Food for thought. If yours has the 1" snap in pipe supports, I found a way to reinforce it if you ever need to. I took 1 3/8" chain link fence rails and the "T" supports and added them to my sides and...
We are new duck owners. We wanted only 2 but there were 3 left and tsc didn't want to leave the other alone. They need companionship. So we have 3. Lol we had a large metal tub for brooding, but our Rouens quickly outgrew that. We moved them into a pup tent (camping tent) until we recently moved...
