Comment by 'Fowl Explorer' in article 'Yes, You Certainly Can Brood Chicks Outdoors'

I have trouble remembering stuff like this and would like to get a print copy of the content (incl pix) of this article. Is there one in publication?

    Testing your chickens for mycoplasma

Mycoplasma does not quickly spread but can stay in the soil "a good while".

Feeding with mealworms as the only protein source

My vet just read me the riot act on feeding mealworms, scratch, black oil sunflower seeds, etc. paraphrasing slightly: "Those "treats' nutritional ratios" have an inverse relationship to a healthy balanced diet for chickens. Your birds will not recover from molts as quickly, and will become...

    Coping with Blackhead

I wonder if that metronidazole dose will work for 10 week old poults. One appear to be coming down with blackhead. My royal palm is not affected by it, but the Midget White Tom (no longer alive) father was susceptible. This poult appears to be susceptible. 30 mg/kg?

Updates on the last pages: Neighbor is threatening me and my chickens

    Why can a broody......

I must say that the Buckeyes almost ALL go broody at different times. You haven't lived until you go in the coop and 6 pairs of broody stares look back at you. Egg production drops, too!

New Rooster crow dampening, noise reducing device

I think I would be glad to use this! But I'm not interested because it is a "come-on" which I abhor. No evidence provided that this works. Too many seasons into the game, guy.

    Saving A Bird

I have turkey which has lost weight. Refuses food, drinks water. Moved from hot trailer to cooler garage, but is still acting hot. She lost her main baby, but is taking care of other chick. She seemed depressed. Food passes undigested. What to do?

    Establishing Feral Chicken flock

A friend of mine got sick of her chickens and just opened the doors (she had a large property with a woods behind the pasture) and said, "Y'all are on your own!" They got the message and disappeared. But as a flock, came up occasionally to see if there was any treats. She harvested one...

Review by '' on item 'Farm Innovators "All-Seasons" Heated Plastic Poultry Fountain - 3 Gal. Model HPF-100, 100-Watt'

I own one of these and it seems like a good idea. I always fill it up, and then it is really heavy to move and tip out daily. We have ours up on blocks, plugged straight into an outlet. You have to be very careful about tipping it out, or it will come apart. This is no different from the...
