So we have established a system. We will text our neighbor and let them know we are letting the chick's out. They will keep their dog in at that time. Not ideal but they can't put up a fence now since one of them has major medical issues now. Sigh. It works for now. I guess.
She is all better and high on the pecking order again. Lol. She is much more docile now and not afraid of me like she used to be since I cared for her so that is a bonus.
I'm still not sure when it's safe to return her to the flock. It's getting pretty stinky in the house lol (no matter how much I clean up after her) and she seems to be moving around much better and getting a little restless. But I don't want to return her too soon and her be attacked or hurt...
Ty. Agreed. The only time we allow our dog off the leash is when he is hearding the chick's. Brorder collie- he is excellent with the chicks and very well trained and helpful. Attached is a pic of the wounds from the third attack. Couldn't get a pic of the leg to see if it was broken or just...
I have a neighbor that was letting his dog free to play with our dog. The dog was getting pushy and blocking our dog from coming when we call him, or work when I need him to safely (thorough training) round up the chicken.
Just recently 2 of my hens went missing along with my rooster. Our...
Again, thank you so much. She is my favorite also. She comes when I call her, follows me all the time, sits in my lap. She is my little sweet heart. I hope I take care of her well enough for her to heal properly. I would be devastated if something happened to her. Lol
Thank you so much. I appreciate your advice. First time chicken mom. Research will only get you so far with this. I was leaning towards the rooster and you confirmed it. Thank you again.
Thank you. Yes we have a roster(1) he is under a year old. Thos pic was before the wash. I will take the wrap of. I am concerned she is picking at it but I can't tell. She seems a little more"withdrawn" for lack of better words then usual from the flock. I think it may be a few days old.
Under her wing . Just found it today. First time seeing it. I thought it was weird that she was heading in to roost very early, earlier than all the other chickens. Still eating and drinking. Is it dirty, or is it scabbed over.
I can't tell if this is an injury or disease. I separated her from the flock and washed it and put triple antibiotic ointment and gauze and wound wrap. Does anyone know what it may be?
