    When to introduce outside

Yes, that’s what I thought also. They are feathered except their heads, but I think it’s still too cold at night for them to be out without a heat lamp

    When to introduce outside

Are you saying they could have gone out at two weeks old? A month ago the daytime highs were in the 30’s and 40’s

    When to introduce outside

I have some almost six week old chicks. Most are almost completely feathered out. I live in Montana so it’s still in the upper 30’s to low 40’s at night. But the next few days will be in the low 70’s. Would it be ok to put them out in a pen for a few hours in the afternoon?

    Growth rate?

I bought 11 chicks from a breeder two weeks ago. 3 Buff Orpington, 3 Silver Wyandotte, 3 Specked Sussex and 2 Light Brahmas. The Buff’s are huge compared to the rest and especially 1 Wyandotte and 1 Sussex are tiny. They all seem healthy and active. I’ll attach a photo of them today at just...

    Hen attacked by guinea

She is doing much better today. Eating and drinking. I've been spraying the wounds with Vetrycin and using a tetracycline eye ointment in her eyes. Both eyes are open now and she seems able to see. I'm having her sleep in a big dog crate , then letting her walk around the barn during the day...

    Hen attacked by guinea

Yes if I can figure out which jerk it was he is definitely going to jail. It's just that guineas are so flighty that I can't grab him in the act and by the time they go roost, I'm not sure which one it is! They all look alike!

    Hen attacked by guinea

My sweet, docile Dark Brahma was attacked by my bully guinea yesterday. Her head is bloody and her eyes swollen shut. I have washed her head and applied Vetrycin and syringed warm water into her mouth which she drank readily. I have her in a hay filled box in my heated tack room now. What else...

    Pullet with splayed legs

I have checked her over and can't see or feel any injuries. I don't have any roosters. She is fed Purina layer crumble along with a little scratch and meal worms as treats. She is not laying yet and I checked with the person I bought her from and she is not vaccinated for Mareks. These are...

    Pullet with splayed legs

I have a 7 month old Wyandotte pullet whose legs suddenly don't seem to work. Some days she can barely stand, yet others she walks (with difficulty) around their big yard. What could cause this in an adult chicken and is there anything I can do for her?

    Guinea keets

I am new to guineas. I have 6 ten day old keets. Will I be able to add them to my chicken flock without the chickens picking on them? And at what age will it be safe to move them to the coop? I was hoping by the time they are 6 - 7 weeks old? Is it best to put them in the coop at night?

    Hen with head missing!

They are in a large pen with chicken wire and a barn they go into at night. She was found beside the barn .

    Hen with head missing!

When my husband went to the coop to feed this afternoon, one of our hens was laying there missing it's head. No other signs of damage to her body. What could have done this? We had skunk issues awhile back and we trapped and took care of that. Could a skunk have done this? And it happened...

    Give broody hen some chicks?

I introduced 4 chicks to my broody hen last night. It went well. At first she pecked my hand but once she realized I had chicks she started clucking to them. She lifted her wings and got them all settled for the night. She is one happy mama today. The only chicks available were at least a week...

    Give broody hen some chicks?

I'll probably give it a try if I can find some chicks. I'll let you know how it goes!
