I would keep LC without hesitation. Once I've rescued a chicken from anything, it becomes a beloved pet. He is a strong cockerel to have survived, and it seems to me he has a less than overbearing personality since he was picked on.
I was lucky enough to get @Smokerbill's cockerel who had...
I love a good story of chick survival! What a great chicken tender you are! I think you did all the right things for him. Maybe he will be the one to replace your mean old rooster some day?
Oh holy cow!!!! I'm saying the wrong thing about Vetericyn!!! Now that you mention it, it is VetRX i was talking about!!! The Vetericyn is for wound care. I'm so sorry!!! Got my meds mixed up in my head!!!
Man, I hate getting old!!!
Oh gosh! I hope Stanley will be okay! I have something to help with that. I use Vetericyn and just put drops of it on their water. It treats all the birds that way, but can't hurt them. Also, it's good to put it under their wings or anywhere you think they might preen. It works like a good...
I think 8C is 46F and that is definitely not too cold for a chicken, even if she isn't fully feathered. She looks pretty close to fully feathered to me. I'm glad she is acting healthy otherwise.
Oh, I don't know. I haven't had to deal with mites. But the red ones are the ones that live in the coop and just come out and bite the chickens at night, right? If so, I'd say you got 'em!
I think you have taken care of the mites, and the 19% feed is good. She'll probably start getting through this molt now. Did you spray her for mites as well?
They are Buff Orpingtons. That is my favorite chicken, so it would be very nice to keep this little guy as he grows. Hopefully he will get along with Cooper. Cooper seems pretty laid back and I have had a rooster accept another rooster if he actually grew up in his flock, so I have reason to...
I don't have netting over my free range run anymore. So hard to get it out of the trees when it is time to change it! I did buy new netting, but we haven't installed it. When we used it, we put up T-poles to keep it high and away from the chickens, and give us room to walk under it. I have a...
DH took a picture of the peeps last night at close in time. All the chickens were in except these three. They wanted to stay up for a while, but at least were in the enclosure, so he could lock them all in and they could go in to roost when they are ready. Aren't they cute? 12 weeks old now...
That is scary!!! Glad she is okay!!! I have had netting over our run for years, and have had that happen when the netting fell do to storms. We don't have it now, but of course that means we have to worry about aerial predators.
I had the duty of closing in the chickens last night as DH was away for the evening. I had to herd the 2 mo old chicks into the pen. Oh gosh, they are just so cute. Like toddlers who don't want to go to bed. They did not go all the way in the coop while I was out there but just the outdoor...
