HELP! I lost my first hen tonight

We've had a mangey fox sniffing around for a few weeks and tonight he came earlier than normal and I heard a commotion and caught him in the act. He grabbed Rose a foot from her chicken coop. I had just brought my pyrenees inside to eat and missed intercepting him by seconds. I have farm...

Gave rooster away, he came back!

Hey everyone! So I had 2 roosters that were fighting. They were both hatched here at my farm. When theyd fight my turkey would jump in and then one of them started getting the best of my turkey. The turkey ends up with flystrike. We live in the country and I have a neighbor all the way down the...

    Is this leg bowed?

Hello everyone! I have a farm in SC and a month ago purchased 3 ducks from TSC (I know I know) I did what I usually do and picked 2 of the smallest ones that didn't look good and were getting trampled. I had plans on building a duck enclosure with a koi pond and river rocks so this wasn't an...

    Turkey with wound on butt

I noticed this morning when I let everyone out of the coop that my girls must've been pecking his bottom. It's pretty bad. This happened last year and I made my Tom an apron to cover it til it healed but I've just gotten off a 7 day rotation in the ER and didn't notice this. How can I treat this?

    Issues with molting?

I've noticed several of my hens still don't have their feathers back in from their molt. Is this normal? Seems the older hens have all their feathers but the younger crowd struggling to re grow? Is there any supplements I can add to help?

Does anyone not have issues with hawks?

The rain always brings the hawks out. My rooster and the hawks were digging in the mud together looking for worms. My chickens aren't even afraid of the hawks. I've been here 3 years and never have an issue with the hawks, and the chickens go up at night.

    Do you sell roosters?

So I let a broody hen hatch 5 chicks 5 months ago and 4 of them turned out to be roosters. I am open to rehoming them but I am a little attached because I raised them. They're not mean and already great with the hens. My ratio just doesn't allow for that many roosters. I had someone say they'd...

Please tell me this isnt a roo

I had a broody hen about 4-5 months ago I let hatch 4 eggs. All 4 look like cockerels 😪😪😪😪 This one the last one I was holding out on. I feel like I came home from work one day and he/she started to look very masculine. What am I doing wrong? What dictates whether a chick will be male or...

Difference in size with TSC chicks

So I purchased 4 TSC chicks 4 months ago. 2 leghorn and 2 "Americana" I then hatched some eggs from my own flock, these babies are 2 and 3 weeks younger than the TSC babies. They are mixes with barred rock/sex link and orpington/sex link. I feel like my TSC babies are a lot smaller and have...

Im terrible at sexing. Please help!

These are babies I hatched here at my home. They are about to be 4 months. Sex link x orpington and the other is barred rock x sex link. I am pretty sure the Orpington is a cockerel. He's triple everyone elses size. But the barred rock, I'm not sure? My barred rock hens looked pretty masculine...

    Like father like son?

I was the author a few months ago on the thread "my rooster is trying to kill us" well, he's still with us. I affectionately started to call him Charlie Manson. When I go outside I have a rake by my side and he leaves me alone. A few instances he's went after my legs usually if I'm caught off...

    Well gosh that was easy

My orpington went broody weeks ago and I let her keep one of her eggs. 1 turned into 4, two of them belonging to my RR girl. I was humoring her. She was obsessed. Never thought they'd hatch. I marked them so I knew which were the ones she was incubating and collected the rest. Then last week I...

    Are these americauna chicks?

Been wanting americauna chicks for a while and was in TSC today and picked some up, but they were in a metal trough with 2 other kinds of chicks and the guy helping me didn't known what Orpingtons were. He didn't seem like he wanted to be at his job today. Anyway thanks! Also got some leghorns...

    Weird shaped egg

I have a buff orpington that consistently lays weird shaped eggs like this. They seem longer than the other eggs in shape and one side is pointy. Her eggs have that thicker band around the middle and crinkling at the top. Any idea what causes this?

Am I doing something wrong? Spotted eggs

My rhode island red hens started laying eggs last week. I got them from TSC in the fall. They've been great but I've noticed some of them look spotted in color. I just want to make sure it's not something I'm doing wrong. All the other hens have nornal looking eggs. This is the 5th or 6th egg...

    Rooster trying to kill us

Hey everyone! I need some advice. I have a 9 month old barred rock rooster who has never been quite nice. We used to have to go into the coop with a stick and now my chickens free range during the day and he attacks me and my husband when the hens run over to us. He's gotten us a few times very...

    Broody or eggbound Orpington?

Hey guys, I am relatively new to chickens. I am a vet tech and my office does see and treat chickens but wanted to get some opinions here. I've only worked at this practice a few months and come from small animal medicine. I have 8 month old hens (and one rooster), they've been laying for a few...

    Sexing 7 week old RIR

Hello everyone! New here. I purchased some RIR pullets at TSC in August. I was super excited because I've wanted rhode islands for a while. Now I fear at least 3 are not pullets but roos. Can anyone verify before I give them away? I already have a rooster who I know won't tolerate another...
