I encourage people to have both tufted and cf Araucana in the flock...are tufted difficult to get in your area? Where are you?

    Araucana thread anyone?

I had the same thing happen when I started raising Araucana... Because they don't have a tail bone, and lots of butt fluff, breeding is a challenge for these birds. It helps a whole lot of you trim the fluff immediately around the vent and any cushion/saddle feathers that may block the vent area.

It looks like your rooster has a partial tail, or a just a few feathers...that can affect your breeding program. My cockerel also has a few feathers, but he was nice and has lovely pinwheel tufts so I kept him as a short term breeder. I don't understand all the genetics involved with the...

9wk cream legbar wheezing and gasping

@Myrshine - do you mind sharing your FB group? I'd like to check it out. I have a laying pullet that recently began having rales, or congested breathing. No other symptoms. For 3 weeks now. I tried getting her in to my vet (he treats birds) but he's booked out forever. Thank you

Explain? If roosters have ZZ and hens have ZW, I guess I don't understand your objection. It's the same with humans, but the other way around, men having the xy and not being able to produce a son etc ....

Ok, if her main body color was yellow, she's a wheaten based bird and she has a patterning gene, but I can't say more than that...

Well, maybe it is just bad luck... That's possible. I don't have any other ideas on the problem, maybe someone else can offer more insight

Generally the hen determines the sex of the chicks, more so than the rooster. Did you also change your hens?

You say she had chipmunk stripes? Was her main body color a yellow or a brown?

Does anyone here have e+ BBR (not wheaten) or Golden Duckwings?

I've never interacted with this person - I was just looking at our club breeders directory, gonna start cold calling and see if I can locate any... Thanks for the lead, I'll reach out and see if ColtHandorf has any! Fingers crossed lol! If I could find just a "decent" cockbird, maybe I could put...

"Mishmash" is a really good way to put it...the confusion in the Araucana breed has been going on for so long, I feel like we have 2 balls of string that got tangled up and now a handful of us are working to reverse it all. - I can't even get my hands on e+ birds, the only breeder I know that...

The "Ask Anything" to Nicalandia Thread

Exactly! - I have some silver wheaten hens and a cinnamon (not sure the correct name, dark wheaten?) wheaten pullet - and they don't resemble this girl at all. My wheaten cockbird has bright crisp color compared to the more subdued color of e+ BBR cock.... For comparison, the trio that was...

Ok, well thank you! Maybe somebody knows something... My first thought was the same as yours, red columbian, but I'm certain the person I bought her from is too well organized for that to happen. I'm surprised he sold her as e+ BBR, he should know better. I only have a Wheaten BBR cockbird, so...

The "Ask Anything" to Nicalandia Thread

Thank you, that's what I suspected when I got her... I sold her to a girl working on Araucana duckwings... I'm new to this breed really, and it seems like people have confused e+ and wheaten for so long, they've almost lost the e+ birds. Recently there are a few of us working to bring them...

Hello Genetics Gurus! I'm working on a line e+ wild type Araucana. I recently bought this pullet and had her shipped across country, but I can't tell if she's silver duckwing or golden duckwing. What do you see? Thank you for the help, I'm losing my mind trying to dissect the e+ from the eWh :barnie

Thank you in advance, for any pointers! I also have chick pics for down comparisons, if needed... Some of them were what I call a broken chipmunk pattern, some were yellow, if that helps. I also have pics of the hens that laid these eggs, if that would help.
