I'm down to 1 four year old hen that has mostly given up laying, the roo and other 3 hens that I brought with me were taken by an owl that found its way into the barn through a ten inch hole in the rafters I could not see from the ground. Here before Halloween I had a good 50 5 month old grow...
I will get a picture from his new owner. When I moved I had to rehome to another breeder all the adult roo's. I kept the best male offspring and the older hens to bring with me. I had a limit of 25 birds I had room in the RV for and 18 of those were set aside for my Aloha's.
No. The coops and runs are tight to keep out wild birds. Well at the old farm at least. We moved 2 months ago to Kansas as I bought a big 230 acre cattle farm with tons of barns, so they are locked up tightly in a barn now until I get the runs built. and yesterday got 1 egg from them.
They are...
Not all lines, the Line I got mine from have no recessive white, but on the flip side while they do lay dark eggs, out of the two hens I only got 70 eggs last year.
These two, one pic each, are of idiots boys. they are 6 months old and I am not liking them at all. What I want to ask is what is up with the weird coloration mid back?
And in a case of an egg getting into a incubator which it shouldn't have thinking it came from somewhere else. I have a few young FBCM pullets in a pen of Light Brahma's that has an older Dark Brahma rooster in it for general protection. The rooster has not really had any urges to breed anything...
Idiots first batch of chicks now 10 weeks old.
The Roo's, not that I am impressed with them yet, but they are very young still.
I also realize the pics are not that good, but the new runs are finished and the new coops are being built so around 12 weeks when I snap better pics they will be in...
I'll go look at them later this morning. I really do not actively start thinking about culling from the breeding program until 12 weeks, so ignore little things like that. I know with the FBCM I have to wait until at least 8 months before actively looking for faults unlike some of my other...
Idiots second set of eggs are starting to hatch. this will be the last from him until fall. A day early and from first pip to out in a couple of hours. So far it seems strong and vigorous.
Luckily for me they are not FBCM but Cinnamon queens' I threw into the pen as I needed space. And I really do not like having two hens with a rooster. It will be resolved when he gets better as I am currently in build mode for 9 new runs and pens.
Interesting to note that there is a cannibalism...
I did. I already cleaned them up, after I took the pics because then they would have looked strange otherwise. These were shipped in, so they should settle down in the next day or so. shipped babies always get pasty butt it seems, well unless I keep the water at bath temperature in the mornings...
So, I got these 6 from the same breeder I got Idiot from. We will see. I do have 7 more of idiots offspring hatching this weekend. They are a week old.
Pics of Idiot's first chicks. I'll have to get better pics, these were when they were 24 hours old. The buff colored chick is from an Aloha and no a FBCM.
