Mine have been laying soft shells here and there since the heat got hotter, even with available calcium. Is it hot where you're at?
I was also afraid i had an egg pecker.. well someone did try after a few soft eggs, but i grab the eggs quickly so they don't get time to practice. I'm assuming...
I don't think it will... but HOPEFULLY all the water im adding to the run is helping them a bit. Lots of soft shells, and went from 7 laying to 2 laying. I think itll be at least another month of the heat. I let them out to run around in the morning and evening.. ugh.. poor things. Feel bad too...
Its still hot and more hot here in Texas, and wind gusts that are just as hot. In the evenings I've been filling the dust bath holes in the ground (i have about 4" of sand over soil), so by morning they each have their own air conditioned bowl to sleep in. Seems to keep them resting comfortably...
Thoughts are w you and your family, @TropicalBabies ❤
I lived on Oahu and would call in grass fires, and no one would respond until it was actually up at a house.. so the slow action is not surprising to me. Such a shame and tragedy for all.
Can you lock your boys in and bring the others into the garage? Im setting up the brooders today, putting the chickens in tomorrow afternoon before the winds get going. They won't be happy, but i have snacks lined up for them!
