Finally warm enough at night to move the peppers out of the greenhouse.
Yup there are plenty of weeds going strong.
Potatoes are up and flowers are starting to bloom.
Never grew nasturtium before but so far they are kinda cool.
I bought cheaper stuff last year too. It was a costly mistake. It didn't hold any water and my plants struggled.
Even the strongest starts failed once put into that crappy stuff.
I also didn't like the seed starting little compressed disk things. They didn't expand well at all giving just 1/2"...
Thanks!
I think it's mostly peppers in them right now.
I start them in the tiny seed trays in seed starting mix by Jiffy. I up pot into the solo cups that I punched holes into the sides about 1/8" above the very bottom. I do bottom water them and let them dry out for a day or two between...
Peppers and potted flowers hanging out in the greenhouse.
They have lots of company with the flowers, jalapenos and strawberries all waiting patiently.
Welcome!
While it's a slow start to the season I am hoping the weather straightens out soon.
We are under a freeze warning tonight. I think it may be the last one for the year. :fl
Having some peppers in the raised beds as well as peppers in the buckets I will be tracking their progress...
I forgot to update on Sunday.
Hubs filled my buckets and planted the sweet peppers while I dug in the raised beds planting lettuce, spinach, peas and tomatoes.
We are incredibly windy so all the planted buckets are hanging out in the greenhouse.
I have 2 gigantic pots and a rubbermaid stock...
Since this is a 100% experiment for me I tried to buy only what I had to.
I am definitely going to recommend bigger pipe to anyone also doing this.
I am planning on doing the drain pipe for a water trough I want to make into a self watering planter.
I may have to pick your brain when that...
Thanks for joining the adventure!
I agree a 1" diameter minimum for the fill pipe would be better. I had the 1/2 inch already so will do the funnel filling for now.
I did see several videos where instead of a net pot and cut lid they used a simple milk jug with holes drilled in it. It looked...
I filled one but did not plant it to see if the water indeed wicks up. After 2 weeks in the greenhouse it's still got 1/2 gallon in the bottom and is damp all the way up.
Yes winter is being fickle this year.
I filled one bucket to figure out how much each will hold. It looks like about 20 quarts. The 4" net pot and disk gives a 1 gallon water reserve.
It's still getting cold at night here. I will hold off filling them all until the nights are more stable.
I took today off.
Bucket prep has begun finally. It's just 40° in the garage.
Pilot hole for net pot hole.
Net pot hole. It's 3".
Lots of drainage holes and a hole for the PVC fill pipe. I am using 1/2" scraps of pipe.
Cut the disk with a jig saw. It was pretty easy.
From the bottom...
Working 6 days a week left me missing all the good weather this week. It's windy, chilly and spitting rain today.
The seedlings are doing well enough. Still waiting on some of the peppers to sprout. If those fail I still have time to try again.
Bare root strawberries should be at the greenhouse...
The sun never came out today. Even the greenhouse remained to cold to work in.
Instead of prepping buckets I set seeds for bell and jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, and a few flowers (72 pots).
By the time they need out of starter pots the greenhouse will be warm enough for potting up.
I looked at TSC and mine doesn't have them in store. They said maybe the one down south of us would. I will look there later this week as it's close to my job.
I found a more accurate video for how I plan to go. Our weather is clearing back up and snow melting away. I think I will try cutting...
It is! It gives so much more control hopefully.
Each one that I set up in a different way will be documented to share here. I also plan to.post throughout the growing season.
It will be a busy summer at work with 2 huge orders coming so I will make Sundays the update day.
Of course if anything...
