@ElfenLied89 I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues with your back. I had a winter accident about 5 years ago (slid on ice… ended up with a concussion and seizures for about a year. And, I damaged a few discs. The seizures totally ceased, but I still get back pain 😣). I do agree with tlc, that...
I have only had a Serama broody with Serama chicks and 1-2 large fowl chicks. I had no issues. As far as a LF and Serama chicks… I haven’t done it. As long as the number of LF chicks is fewer than the amount of Serama chicks, I really don’t see much of an issue… as long as the broody is a...
I can only say to monitor them for any issues. They do well with other brooder mates (even large fowl). I have no problems keeping them that way. Keep in mind though, that I only brood small numbers at any given time, and it works really well.
How are you and Dolly doing @ElfenLied89? I’m so so sorry to hear about the losses. 😞 💔 I know WE ALL HOPE you can find out what’s happening once and for all, so you and your girls can finally have some peace… and lots of beautiful chicks. Hugs. ❤️
Just a suggestion Elfen… if you do get some new chicks for Dolly (I’m so sad for her… and you 😞), can you remove her and the chicks to an area where you can lock them up securely at night? Example: garage or shed. Your own little Fort Knox, so to speak. Then, place one of your cameras to watch...
Thanks Fluffy. 🙂 I just really don’t want to give Elfen any bad advice. I totally brood all of my incubator Seramas away from the existing flock… until they’re grown… then I go through the whole lengthy integration process. I do the same with my Serama broodies and their chicks.
Filigree the 2nd was one of the last to hatch. Perhaps there was an issue beginning pre-hatch. The egg got cracked and maybe the little one wasn’t really ready to hatch yet.
That’s a good question @tlcmurphy. I can give ONLY my experience. I’ve seen broodies abandon eggs once the oldest chicks...
It’s really going to depend on her acceptance of the chicks. If she fully accepts and protects them, they should be fine with her. But, do you plan on keeping her separate from the flock? I’m really overprotective with my own chicks. I separate the broodies with them until they’re done raising...
