The other persons chickens are at least a year old. Your chicks combs are not very red because they're still young. Males develop bright red combs early on but females won't get much color until they are close to laying age.

You're not the only one. Chicks getting mixed up is a very common occurrence.

Those are gold laced Wyandottes, not Barnevelders. All of your other chickens have single combs. Wyandottes have a different comb type called a rose comb which are flat.
