I have 4 bantam EE's almost a year old, and one has been such a stubborn broody that I gave her one egg to hatch. It is one of the Sprite eggs (Spitzhauben-Sebright cross) and thus the chick will be 3/4 Spitzhauben. I am looking forward to seeing what it looks like. All the Sprites look just...
I think Spitzhaubens will do just fine in TX. Mine were fine in all the triple digit temps we’ve had, and they were fine in the polar vortex with negative double digit temps.
My originals came from Cackle Hatchery. We live close enuf that we drove there to pick them up. We are on our 3rd...

I love it! They usually have a dress-up-your chicken contest here on BYC for halloween. It hasn’t been announced yet, but should be soon. I always enter….here’s little Moonshine last year. She doesn’t mind these things if it means getting a bunch of sunflower seeds…
This is Violetta, one of our Sprights (half Spitz) in the basement broody jail for the 3rd time this year. She hatched one egg last year, and chick was a cockerel. (Spitzhauben). She wants to be a mama again so badly but we don’t want more chickens at this time....especially more boys.
The...
