I lovee my Araucanas too. Right now I'm switching roosters out. so far I've used my best Silver duckwing roo with my hens. Next I'll use my best tufted BBR roo with them, after that I'm usi.g my largest bodied gold duckwing roo, hes partial tailed. last is a Lavender red bird. I love the colors.
I'd be after the Rooster and Hen that produced the Hen that laid that egg for sure, at least by having the birds penned together that helps with figuring out which ones to use.

That is an absolutely beautiful colored egg, almost Jewel tone in color. I sure hope she tried hatching it and knows which Rooster and Hen the Hen came from that laid that egg, I'd be doing those matings over and over again, gorgeous vibrant color.

I remember at the time you told me Pigpen was from a White Hen and your Duckwing Rooster, what was Pigpen bred to for creating the tailed Rooster? I had Spangling in the chest of the Rooster I got from Ann, he was Birchen/Duckwing in color, I bred him to a tailed Silver Duckwing Hen and got a...
I am so sorry to hear of your loss Anne, I thought you had a Dog for your Birds. I hope you was able to get some of those Coyotes, they will come back again, I don't think in all the years I've known of you having Araucanas I've ever saw of you mention a Predator Problem. I thought you also...
Are you sure he's rumpless, feel for the Parsons nose. He may have a slow feathering gene and if so he won't show his tail for quite some time.
To me he looks Penedesenca, be sure to keep an eye on his comb development and look for the sprigs at the rear of the comb as he's growing, the rest...
I definately would keep the Red bird, and Buffs are quite rare to have. I know Ann Cushing had a Buff and I had asked her about her a long time ago, she came from a White Hen I think it was from Steve Waters and a Gold Duckwing Rooster, and I think her name was Pigpen.
I think the one small...

You can pick him up and feel for his hip bones where the legs meet the body, then feel between the leg area towards the tail bone area, if your hand goes in he's rumpless, if you feel the parsons nose as they call it he's tailed or partially tailed, he looks rumpless with extended tail...
Lanae,
I don't know if you've done this with your photographs in your book, but I think it would be neat if you have some pictures of chick down colors of some of the birds as chicks just hatched and then pictures of them as adults. It's so hard finding good chick down pictures to have an idea...
Take some to a Show and enter them as AOV, I think the more people see of them will help, and you'd get comments from Judges also on your birds.

I'm planning on going to the Indiana show, I can drive there from here in Ohio, and have a friend from Florida that is planning to also be there, we've emailed each other for the last 2 years and really looking forward to meeting her in person. I plan to also meet a couple of other people at...
Where did you get your tufted birds that you used for breeding to your birds from?
I'd just keep a tight eye on them, they may be Gypsy faced or have Rapanui in the breedings. I just know that when I get a bird that has black I make sure the color won't change, and I've had it not change and...
I'm taking a stab at the ones with the black combs, from what I can see of your picture it looks like the facial skin has red to it, some birds that have the black facial features are considered gypsy faced which I don't know if that is really desirable or not, the other thing about the black...
Village Chicken,
Any chance you have Oyster Shells? I had a hen once that would lay an egg and immediately get up and blast the egg, Jocelyn was the one that told me she could be lacking Calcium and to give her plenty of Oyster shells daily, so that was what I did, and it worked for my hen, so...
Be sure and take your Camera Lanae as we'd all love to see some pictures of the show and the birds, hope you have a safe trip and great time at the show.

I have one regular Splash Rooster from Ann Charles, he's yellow legged and his body feather colors are all white, with only a few black streaks to his overall feathering.
I don't have any pictures of him, he came from one of Ann's birds and from a Rooster Ann showed named Bugly that was a white...
I couldn't see the colors of the legs either. And I did have one Araucana Silver Duckwing Hen that had slate colored legs, and she was Araucana, she didn't pass the color to any of her offspring, infact I got some willow legged Duckwings out of her. It's not per the Standard or preferred, but...
Something else too about Cuckoo in Marans the males are lighter than the females, and every now and then you will get a Rooster that is colored like a Hen being dark, So far I don't think I've saw this happen in the Cuckoo Araucanas, anyone have a Cuckoo Rooster that is darker colored like that...
