Yeah I'm aware of the wait to first harvest. I'm just not seeing anything pop through the ground. Worst case, I'll leave them for a year! They had some mildew on them from sitting damp in plastic, so I'm concerned I may have killed the crowns before planting time! Live and learn!
I just couldn't wait any longer! My gardening itch was too strong. I planted some apple seeds my grandson gave me, anise hyssop, valerian, and Angelica. They may never sprout, but I scratched the itch!
They'll have a big grassy area, plus half of my garden to free range in, so they should get a lot of good bugs, seeds, etc. I'll most likely try to take them to a processing plant for this first batch. I know there're tons of you tube videos and how tos on the web, but I'd prefer a little...
Yep! It was a toss up between those and the "red ranger broilers," but since the CXs supposedly have more breast meat, I chose those. I'll see how I do with them and maybe try the rangers next time, since they're good foragers
It's pretty nice weather here today. Just needed a light jacket. So I cleaned out the rabbit poop bin and under the chicken roosts. Got a wheelbarrow full of straw and poo and took it down to the garden. Raked the blown leaves back on to the beds too. It was so nice to be outside in the fresh...
My kale and lettuce in the cold frame have revived! I looked at it a couple weeks ago after some single digit days/nights, and it looked done. Good ol Mother Nature!
And it made it until mid-December! That's pretty darn good! I haven't looked at mine since early this week, but I'm sure it's done too. We have freezing rain, and the ground has been frozen for a few days.
Way to go LG! I keep putting off ordering chicks. I spend too much time analyzing what might be best, I.e. Where am I going to keep bantams, where would ducks and turkeys go, I need a run-in before I buy a steer, can I build what I need.......ad nauseam. I drive myself crazy. At some point, I...
Yeah I just ordered a southern exposure catalog today. I'll probably drowning in catalogs in January! Lol! Between looking at seed catalogs and hatchery websites, I may be broke by the end of January!
