This is for Bob. Page 65 in the cookbook. It really is “Best Ever Pie Crust”!

9 1/2 years is pretty cool though. Nice job.

I hope you can get them back. You will need to cover their pen. 6 feet is nothing to a turkey. Even without a wild one, sooner or later the poults would begin roosting on that 6’ fence, and jumping down on whichever side they feel like. I’m not sure how to get them to come back if they are...

Oh, and I think it’s great that your daughter is playing bassoon. If she is good, she can probably get a great scholarship. Colleges need bassoon players. My husband was always trying to convince our kids that they should play bassoon.

Oh wow! I can’t believe how quickly other peoples children grow up! This thread has been going for 8 years. I guess that’s not all that quick, but it seems like they were just littles. My husband and I are about to become empty nesters. Our youngest (of 5) graduated from college in December...

Well, I have sold off all my adult turkeys again. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Bourbon Reds just didn’t spark joy enough. Of the 100 poults I have hatched, I have earmarked only 3 to keep. 1 Rusty Black, just to see what it looks like when it grows up, and 2 of the unexpected mixed colors that weren’t what I was...

I had a similar sale a few years back. It was a living history farm, ran as it would have been in the 1920s. They took 2 of my Sweetgrass mix jennies, and then they came back a year or so later and got two more. This is located in a state park, and we have gone and visited a couple of times...

Speaking of Narragansett, this Craigslist ad is driving me bonkers! See the part I circled in red…🤦‍♀️ Um, your pure line of Narris are producing poults of different colors???? But, at least if they keep their $35-45 poults posted, it ought to drive more people to my $12 poult ad right? 🤷🏼‍♀️

This week’s hatch has one that must be a Rusty Slate. It doesn’t look as “chocolate” colored as the one from last time (which I sold). And it does have the yellow face mask you expect on a black-based poult. I sold Dove and Fannie May (the chocolate and chocolate lavender hens) this week, so...

So I don’t think my lighter “brown” poult is black-based after all. It’s kind of stripey and doesn’t have the yellow face mask that a black or a blue or chocolate poult starts out with. And the one that hatched out blue-looking lost that look when it dried out. Now it looks like the bourbon red...

Aaaand we have a new contestant that wants to play! This one definitely looks blue to me. If it’s blue, then that makes it a Rusty Slate, right? When this one dries off more, I’ll have to take a photo with all 3 shades together. At this point I have to believe that one of the BR toms must be...

Here’s the “diluted” brown one. Both shades of brown (i.e. the Rusty blacks and the Rusty whatevers) all have brown legs. I wouldn’t have thought the red gene would affect the leg color. So much to learn about turkey fine points. My black and chocolate Orpington chickens have black and brown...

Hm. I wonder if I would be able to tell the difference between Rusty brown and rusty slate. The chocolate gene and the blue gene both dilute black but in different ways. Throw in the red, and I feel like I will get mixed up. Last year I only hatched out blues and lavenders. Some with chocolate...

So I was thinking about how none of my poults are black. I don’t expect the BR toms to be split to chocolate so I wondered if the red gene could affect the black color of the poults. I looked at Porter’s color pages, and found this: https://www.porterturkeys.com/more-color-combos So that...
