    Show Me Your Pallet Projects!

I did a ton of research before making any decision. Researching heat lamps vs. brooder plates, researching the different brands and models of brooder plates, etc. I'm also able to check on the chicks a lot throughout the day, and I always double check the brooder plate. Each option has its own...

My brooder plate has a red light that is on if it is plugged in. I also think they just "got lost" at bedtime because of being in a new much bigger place.

I almost wasn't going to check on them before I went to bed last night. I am glad I did, though!! They were all huddled up in the corner opposite of the brooder plate! So, I moved them all to the brooder plate and they settled in.

It's a lot less work to leave them uncut, too! Thanks for all the info! I am definitely using deep litter. I couldn't imagine having to change it every day. It truly is amazing how quickly those feathers come in!!! And they are so pretty! They just peeped so ridiculously loud and long when I...

It's so tall because I didn't feel like cutting the sacrificial plywood. I have never had chicks or chickens before, and am planning on moving them around 6-8 weeks, depending on the weather and how feathered out they are. I finished it up today, and moved them in. They immediately tested their...

It's not pretty, at it sure ain't perfect, but I built a bigger brooder for the chicks: The screws were a smidge too long, so I need to cut off the protruding sharp bits. Once that is done, I can finish setting it up and move the chickies in! They haven't outgrown the current brooder, exactly...

The sacrificial plywood has been cut and attached to the floor of the coop: The plywood is technically part of a pallet because it was used to keep the metal straps going over the whole pallet from cutting into the product on top of the pallet.

I'll keep doing research until I can decide what would work best for us. We will still use sacrificial plywood as the main part of the floor, but I'd love to have something on top of it so I don't have to replace it often, if ever. When we get it done, I'll post an update! For now, we made some...

I saw a couple of posts mentioning it so I Googled it. Supposedly, it's a good option! The 4'x6' one is almost 100 lbs, so I will probably get some smaller ones that I can actually lift to hose it off, if needed.

GUYS!!! GUYS!!!!! GUYSGUYSGUYSGUYSGUYS!!!!!! I found a possible solution that isn't free, but should last for many years: Horse Stall Mat (link) I'd put it on top of the plywood, and under the bedding. Is there a reason this wouldn't work as well as I'm thinking? Tractor Supply has a 4'x6' for $50.

Thank you for the compliment! We have worked really hard on it, and it feels weird to not have as much to do! I shared it on the gardening thread because that is one of the 2 places I post most consistently, and after having been on this website for 4 years, I was excited to share that we are...

Yeah, salvaged plywood was my plan. We have (what feels like) tons, so it would be easy to replace. If I figure something else out, I'll try to remember to share it here. I don't mind at all! I didn't even think about posting it here. You shared it in a really good way, too. Not pushy or...

    Show Me Your Pallet Projects!

Currently, the floor isn't done. We used pallet wood as the frame/base for the floor. Our plan is to put plywood on top. Honestly, I haven't thought much further than that, yet. Their water will be kept in the run, so that won't be an issue inside the coop. We do have a couple pieces of linoleum...
