Hello from a new member

I’ve been wanting to have chickens for a long long time, and now that I’m in my 50s it seems like the stars are in alignment: my wife is interested as is my 24 year old daughter who lives at home.

So now I’m becoming a quick study on everything - I know we’re getting a late start but TSC near us is selling pullets so that may help us jumpstart our coop.

I’ll be reading a lot here, likely asking questions too - thanks in advance

No chickens yet but we plan to start with 3-6
Welcome, Some of the most important things I wish I knew when I started:

1. Do not buy prefab coops. Build or covert a shed. Make sure you go big enough so that if your chickens have to stay in all day they can - inclement weather. And that you can easily sit in as well.
2. Secure space in the run: Space solves so many issues, spread of disease, boredom, fighting, to name a few. Use 1/2 hardware cloth everywhere the chickens will be where there is not a hard wall/ceiling/floor.
3. Choose chickens specific for your climate.
