Hello again. I’ve started introducing my granddaughter to our chickens as she has recently become fascinated with them. She’s constantly wanting to share her own snacks with them. We don’t generally let her eat after the dogs (yeh ik gross but🤷🏼‍♀️) only because she will just let the pup eat the entire snack. I cant find anything about eating after chickens (gross opinion aside) are there any health reasons to not allow her to share her food?

some things (like staph) can be transferred between humans and chickens. there are a few diseases as well but i feel like its the same way with dogs. just be careful of what you feed your birdies and keep an eye on the health of your humans/pets

Chickens can carry Salmonella in their beaks, Campylobacteriosis as well. If sharing food with chickens, pre cut the food and feed this rather than letting them bite at food that is intended for a human mouth.
