A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I've always wondered how to entice crows to stay around my farm. I've seen them chase off Redtails. Probably no help on the bald eagles. I'm crossing my fingers that the great horned owls don't learn to hunt inside the barn where my turkeys roost. I've heard them courting, they are pretty magical.

Huntmaster, thank you for sharing your thoughts and pics! You are very generous. I've studied the pics. I now have a better idea on how to put up the top netting. I thought I'd need a pretty good frame but I see how you've used central supports. It was especially good to see some of the...

Thanks for the info. This pic shows the detail perfectly. I just moved to a new place and I'm so tired of fencing (cattle, horses). However, if I can do something that looks half as nice as yours and is permanent it'll. Be worth it. Thank you.

Pallets are a great idea. I can space them so the tom can't get in.

All of mine hatched late August. They have just started breeding. I've found a few eggs. I imagine they are hiding more.

I didn't realize that. I've only had free range before. These girls are big, at least compared to the chocolate hens.

Huntmaster, I was afraid the electric wouldn't work. Your setup is very nice, great size. I have a few questions. Are you using welded wire for fencing? Did you attach the netting to the top of the fence? Lastly are you using straw on the ground or are you keeping the grass growing? I have...

I don't want to hatch many. I ended up with only 3 hens and I'm concerned that's not enough to keep a breeding flock going.

I'd like the hens to hatch them. I do have several people looking for eggs. I understand this variety has a tendency toward broodiness. They'd need to be in for at least 2 months so they'll be away from my chocolate toms for enough time.

Breeding area and clipping wing feathers

Need some opinions on setting up a breeding area for one tom and three hens. I currently have all my turkeys free ranging on my farm. They roost in the barn, on corral panels (not my idea), the hens sometimes are in the rafters. I want to hatch out some of my recessive blue Narragansetts. I...

    Turkey sounds -- translations?

Does the yelp sound like a bark? My chocolate hens make the loudest bark type vocalization just before they go to roost. Inside the barn it's very very loud. I'm trying to figure out what to call their different vocalizations Your post is very helpful. One other question, what is the sound...

    Need advice separating toms/hens

Oh yes, I'd be able to tell the poults apart. Other than the blue narris I have chocolate hens. No doubt who is who when they hatch. I'm not doing very well selling the extra toms so I don't imagine I'd do any better selling poults. Probably not a good idea for me to have the crosses...

    Need advice separating toms/hens

I have 7 toms and 8 hens. They free range during the day and roost in my open sided barn at night. It's interesting to me that the toms and the hens often free range separately during the day. Anyway, I only want to breed my three recessive blue Narragansett hens to one of the three blue narri...
