Is about 100.5 okay for dry hatching?

10 chicks out of 13hatched. One was a early quiter (before day 18). 1 pipped but did not go further.never finished. One never pipped. I believe that makes a 76% hatch rate.

Is about 100.5 okay for dry hatching?

I just finished dry hatching in a Maticoopx 30 and the temp was 99.5- 99.9. The bigger temp was reached during hatching. Humidity for first 18 days was 25%~30% with no water. Lockdown we brought it to 45-55% humidity by adding water to the smallest of two reservoirs. During hatching as...

Egg turning and humidity/temp questions in incubator

The Meed looks similiar to a Nurture Right. Using an egg carton may not work due to the size. I understood to manually turn eggs you place an O on one side and an X on another and just turn them back and forth. As already mentioned if the incubator has a fan you can hatch at 99.5 Fahrenheit...

    Pipd's Peeps!

Here is the chick that has the dark head with yellow fluff body. Very calm chick when you can catch it. LOL. Most of the other yellow chicks have a dark grey mask around their eyes.

Piece of egg stuck to chick

We hatched 10 Silverudd Blue on Tuesday and this one had a few pieces of eggs shell on it. Once it completely dried all the pieces of shell fell off. I have only had to pick shell off on occasion from a chuck. Typically if it is small amounts and they have fluffed out several hours I would...

    Hello

Welcome Marcy and your menagerie. I am saving our feed bags and plan to make reusable grocery bags with them. I just can’t see the point of wasting them to the trash. I am not going to line them as I want to be able to wipe them down if something gets spilled in them. Now i am thinking on...

Apparently low humidity isnt a bad thing for the first 18 days?

In the past I did not k on about “dry” hatching. I tried the last 21 days. First 18 days. It water temp 99.5-99.7 and humidity 23% - 30%. Day 18 added water in the first of two chambers (Maticoopx 30). Got the humidity up to around 50%. When hatching started the humidity would jump up into...

    Pipd's Peeps!

Here is one of 10 hatchlings from Tuesday. They hatched from Silverudd Blue egg. We have a mix of black/blue and some like this one with a grey cast over the yellow. One has a lot of black on ithe top of its head. I could not catch it to get a picture. They live their brooder heat plate.

What is, in your opinion, the friendliest chicken breed?

We never had chickens that you cuddled but they were friendly. There was this one bantam Cochin roo who we called Barney “Fife” (His crowing was pretty bad.) Whenever he saw my husband he would stand up on his box and tapped his feet as though he was excited to see him. My husband would talk...
