Hawk-proofing a run that’s in the woods and need recommendations for your favorite netting!!

When I posted this a year ago, someone mentioned the electrical tape. I didn’t end up using it so I’m not familiar with it. It’s been a year now, I have 17 chickens and have not had one hawk bobcat, raccoon incident sense. I have the fenced area around that is three strings of electric fence...

    Breaking Broody

Good luck with your Broody. i’ve had a few that were easy to break and a couple that took days. My worry was they never seem to care about eating or drinking much. I love your containers for food and water. Would you mind telling me where you got them everything I put in gets knocked over in the...

    Water belly

You’re special chicken was already dying. It took love and commitment to try to help her so you should feel good about that. chickens hide their suffering and had you done nothing she would’ve suffered a bit longer and died alone. I am so sorry for your loss but you should have no regrets.

Cream Legbar - 10 months, still hasn't laid an egg

Well, that is interesting. I have one 11 month old who hasn’t started Laying and it never occurred to me that a chicken wouldn’t eventually lay an egg ! Oh well, I guess she can get by on her good looks alone😊

I like the long handle! I think the mesh might be two fine. The sand is coarse and I’d like to keep it that way. Thanks for your response.😊

    Raised lesion on beak

No, unfortunately it’s clearly some sort of a lesion. She does love digging in the dirt, however, so that isn’t going to help it heal!

    Raised lesion on beak

I just happen to have my reading glasses on when my porcelain D ‘uccle jumped on my lap to say hello. I was shocked to see this lesion on her beak. If I don’t have my glasses on, I wouldn’t have seen it and it could have been there for sometime. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I...

    A cluttered run

You gave me some good ideas. Wouldn’t you know I had a wooden pallet sitting in the woods and about a month ago I finally thought I’ll never use this, so I got rid of it. Lol I do have some pieces of particleboard in the garage I could bring out and rig something up, thanks 😊 oh that’s a good...

Do my 3.5 mo old chicks need more time to have more courage against mild aggression?

OK I can definitely do that. I have plenty of wood debris and just plain junk I can spread around .there’s a large area behind the coop. I can also put hiding spaces as it is pretty bare back there. Thanks!

Do my 3.5 mo old chicks need more time to have more courage against mild aggression?

Space is not an issue. The 3 1/2 months old have been divided in a very large fenced area for two weeks from my 8 1/2 month old pullets. The Roost I have separated for now. The Pullets all get along fine with each other. I have a mix of Bantum‘s and regular size chickens . this week I tried to...

    Moved chicken feed

I also thought hanging the feeders was the answer to keeping rodents away, I hung the feeders away from the coop but the chickens spill so much food from the feeder. It still attracts rodents. I take the feeders in at night, but there’s still plenty of food on the ground for the rats.
