    Input on sand?

Thank you! This was super insightful! I’ve been thinking about the deep litter method too.

    Input on sand?

*the current sand on the roost was there to test the shelf. It’s from the kids’ play box and will be removed and replaced before the chickens spend a night in there. My husband and I just finished a new coop for our flock. I’m so excited because last time I couldn’t help much with construction...

    Broken Leg?

I totally understand for warmth! It just seemed like a very small box for so many chicks. There were bantams in there and it looks like it was really hard on them.

    Broken Leg?

I received a bunch of chicks today and in the mix were some bantams. One chick (I believe is a Mille Fluer duccle) seems to have a broken leg. It doesn’t like to our pressure in that leg and will hold it out. It doesn’t have curled toes and doesn’t appear to have splay leg. How can I splint it...

    Broody hen laying eggs already?

The babies are t fully feathered quite yet, but they are close. She was such a good mom last summer/fall and cared for those offspring for a long time. She still is such a good mom but tries to get away from them to lay. It just seems so early.

    Broody hen laying eggs already?

My hen has her second little clutch of chicks that she has raised and they are about 4 weeks old now. Yesterday I went to check on her and the chicks and I found that she has laid an egg. It seems pretty early to start laying again. Last time she didn’t lay for months after hatching and raising...

    Moving Forward: Coccidiosis

Thank you. It’s so hard to lose even one, especially young ones. The brooder is in the coop below the nesting boxes. That’s where I take the fully-feathered chicks to introduce them to the mature flock, or where my broodies raise their babies. The babies have their own brooder inside if they...

    Moving Forward: Coccidiosis

Thank you for your feedback. I’ve been trying to keep it dry! It doesn’t freeze here anymore but it does get to 40 at night. Would DE help dry out the coccidia in addition to more dry bedding?

    Moving Forward: Coccidiosis

Last year I had just a couple pullets show signs of cocci. I immediately put them and my mature flock on Corid. I didn’t lose a single chicken. This year it got my flock hard. I lost five pullets/cockerels, even after treatment. I’m devastated! I have more chicks coming tomorrow and I’m...

    ISO Lavender Marans

Hey everyone, Does anyone know of a good hatchery that carries Lavender Marans? I recently lost one and I am devastated. The hatchery where I got her from is out of stock currently.

    Cocciodosis

Not yet. Symptoms were visable only yesterday which is when I started treatment. They were all eating and drinking well. Should direct administration be from the water mix offered in the coop or should it be stronger?

    Fibro Sex-Links

Some are definitely darker than others. One is certainly a male and have feathered legs. Such attractive birds either way!

    Keeping Ducks and Chickens together?

I’m really hoping the other two (babies in the brooder) are female, or at least one of the two. I wouldn’t mind hatching some little runners but then I’d have to have a sectioned area. From what I’ve been told is that this breed is pretty flighty and doesn’t like to cause any drama. Males are...
