Probably too early to tell, but...

Yes, that's correct. My husband wants the Delawares separate from all other breeds.

Probably too early to tell, but...

I found this picture on another site. That would be wonderful if she is a Mystic Onyx. :)

Probably too early to tell, but...

When she arrived with the Delawares, she looked like a Delaware, and doesn't resemble the chicks posted on their website, but that's possible! I appreciate the response!

Mixed breed? australorp chicken or ?

I'm thinking Black Australorp. I was going to suggest Midnight Majesty Maran, but it looks like the cockerel is all black without any barring, so I'll stick with Australorp.

Probably too early to tell, but...

"Dot" is now 5 weeks old. I'm still having difficulty identifying her breed, but she sure is a cutie!

    Can someone math for me?

That's close to the size of the main coop we have, although I think ours is 10x16, but really tall....

    Midnight Majesty Pullet…Huh?!

Late posting, but that is correct. The males mainly have white spots on the tops of their heads. I have 27 MMMs.

Abundance of eggs & selling them

Right. Just trying to think of some loopholes that can be used, and I'm not familiar with the zoning laws in Wisconsin or its counties.

Abundance of eggs & selling them

What is your rooster to hen ratio? If a lot of your eggs are fertilized, you could always sell "hatching eggs" as opposed to eggs to eat. Additionally, you could actually charge slightly more for hatching eggs if you are confident that the majority are fertile.

    Yes, it came from Hoover's.

Probably too early to tell, but...

I'm interested in finding out what breed of chicken this little one is. It came in with our shipment of Delawares from Hoover's Hatchery, but it's definitely not a Delaware. Gray legs, feet, beak, comb and vent. It's wings are tri-colored, (black, white, brown/tan). The black in the wings could...

I'm so old I Remember when:

I remember when I used to pull the telephone cord around different obstacles and into a different room while making plans with people to meet up and do things. 😂

What breed is my extra chick?

I'm new to all of this, but @ShrekDawg may be right about this. I have Midnight Majesty Marans, which are a cross between a Copper Maran and a Barred Rock, and they have feathered legs and feet. It will be easier to tell in a few weeks when all of the feathers come in.

What breeds have you kept across your chickening life and why?

My fiancé is insistent upon having Delawares because they are on the Conservation list, (recovering), and he is adamant about keeping them separate from other breeds. They are great for eggs and meat. Since I am new to this, I am "testing" out Midnight Majesty Marans, (Copper Maran male x...

What’s the deal with you chicken people??

Yeah, there's a lot to learn. I'm new to it myself. Some people want show birds, some want meat birds, great egg layers, colorful eggs, etc. My fiance and I raise dual-purpose breeds, meaning they're good for lots of eggs and meat.

    New TN chicken farmer here...

I traded the city for the country and I am jumping into chicken farming head first. My fiance is experienced with chickens, but lost all of them during the winter to people and predators, so we're starting from square one with a new run, a new coop, and a butt load of Delaware chicks. We also...
