I'm sorry for your loss, and thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge! The only area of the internal membrane that had no veins was near the head but when I opened it the chick was barely moving and making to sign of pipping. I didn't realize though that they could make an external...
I have a confession, possibly humidity related but also egg-shape. There was zero movement or any internal pipping from my seventh egg on Day 23 so I gently opened it and found a living chick. Unfortunately when I ruptured the membrane it bled so it could well be that I did in a late hatcher...
One just came out with a tiny red spot at the navel and the umbilical cord still attached to the shell. I didn't open the incubator because I've got one more zipping that's making good progress, and it was able to break off a little piece of the shell to drag around with it, but I'm concerned...
Okay awesome, thank you so much! The first few to hatch act like they're ready to be fully fledged chickens now, haha, but a fourth one just popped out and I'd just as soon wait until morning. Just don't want them to dehydrate. You read so many things it's hard to know what to do! I'm just...
Ooh, I'm seeing conflicting information so I'll ask y'all. :-) I know the chicks in there are okay until everybody hatches, 72 hours to feed off the yolk etc etc, but are they okay at 98.6 degrees or will they be too hot? The other eggs still need to hatch so I don't really want to change the...
I am learning it is more of an art than a science. ;-) Best advice I've seen is "you'll find out what works for your incubator, climate, immediate environment..." I don't know how many chicks I'll get if their air cells are too small 🤞♥️ but I'm determined to learn from it and have success next...
Well I'm reading up more, and while I was marking my air cells I am concerned they're not big enough. That's been my concern this entire process, but I erred on the side of the humidity the incubator suggested. RH averaged 50%, dutifully, but my air cells were not nearly as big as the diagrams...
Since I set them on Saturday morning I counted that as day 1. Sunday a.m. would begin day 2, by my reckoning. When I gave my mama hen eggs on a Saturday evening she hatched out Thursday pm and by end of Friday they were all done, but I don't imagine I'll have them that early in an incubator? I...
Aw yaayy!
And thank you, I am hoping so. Set them on a Saturday but we'll see if they're early birds. I work half day Saturday so Saturday pm and all day Sunday are for the peeps. ;)
Enjoy your hatch!
😂 That's hilarious, because I was tempted to call in sick Friday for that very reason! 🤣 I totally would if people weren't depending on me, for real. At least I've got a light day tomorrow and can be glued to the bator the rest of the day! Thanks!! 🙏
