Nice! Thanks everybody for the compliments, we are loving having chickens, and the fresh eggs are an awesome bonus. What other pet pays rent?!

    Clip Wings?

Not that they they are slow per se; I certainly cant catch one easily in open areas... It's more that they are a flock animal, and when one flies over the fence, (which I doubt yours are capable of at their young age) it is now separated from the others. I just open the gate, move out of it's...

    Clip Wings?

I would let them feather out more before you have to worry about it. I have a new flock that are about 16 weeks and I just gave em the trim last week. Out of 18, 2 of them made it over and were kind of freaked out when they figured it out. They couldn't wait to get back in the pen. (Also a 4'...

Picture of my Pullet w/ a Swollen Eye. Please look!

Do you think this is a physical injury, or an infection like IB? Here's the scoop, I went out to check on the birds, and immediately noticed this chicken's eye. It is only this eye, and if you look closely you can see a dot of blood both above and below the eye. I had to catch her with a...

Who else got some 2013 chicks?!

You know, they would probably be ok, but they can get bullied pretty bad form the full-grown chickens. When you add them, it disturbs the pecking order they have already established. Even though these new chicks aren't a threat, the chickens still need to drive the point home that they are...

Who else got some 2013 chicks?!

I used pine shavings as bedding, and used a trough style metal feeder with an anti roost bar attached over the trough.

Who else got some 2013 chicks?!

I ordred them as soon as they were able to be ordered, which was January 2nd. They gave me a shipping date of Feb 10, based on the hatch dates. They arrived promptly on Feb 11, well packaged and healthy. Did they give you an estimated shipment date?

Thank you! They won't be laying until July, when I'll add 3-4 nest boxes where the lower windows are. They will be able to be accessed from outside the coop via a locking lid.

    Run Roof: Is this ok?

Also, if you are looking for a better alternative to zip ties, look into hog rings. Those would last as long as the fencing.

    Run Roof: Is this ok?

I just finished my run, and i would agree that electrical staples would work, but they are a little overkill... I used poultry staples which I found at home depot in the hardware aisle. (They're also a lot cheaper!) Hope this helps!

Thanks, I'll take that under advisement. We have some friends who are electricians, I'll have them check it out. Thanks Celtic and Thistle!
