Just Inquiring...Can Geese Survive off Grass?

Wild geese can fly away to feed on whatever they want wherever they want, domestic geese don’t have that option. Young grass is high in protein so it’s nutritionally pretty good, but towards summer and in winter “depending on climate” it’s growth slows and nutritional benefits dwindle...

    Journey - Any minute!

Looks like a baby is thinking about coming out into the world! Keep in mind goslings take their time hatching. One of mine “Strawberry” even chattered for a whole day before he decided to make an appearance.

    Sick gosling

This could be several things, something like malabsorption syndrome, a birth defect, some sort of parasite. If the little one has malabsorption there isn’t a lot you can do but try to elevate symptoms and boost their nutrient intake with supplements, probiotics, and possibly even digestive...

    Breeding Geese for Size

Evolution made it happen. The New Zealand goose was estimated to be 40 pounds. Evolution has its own timeline though, and rapid changes can have negative consequences, some of the heaviest dewlap Toulouse can sometimes have leg issues. The idea is intriguing but breeding for health along with...

Gosling making squeaky noises and safe toys

Yeah the low toned one was a snore, the squeal is what I call snuggle sounds, they do that when they’re cuddling or falling asleep. The high pitched CHIPE CHIPE CHIPE is crying, they either are hungry, thirsty, too hot, too cold, or want to be held.

    Overly picky goslings

Geese are very picky and are usually only willing to try something if they’ve seen someone else try it first. If they see you fiddling with it or eating it themse Fed they’re more willing to want to try it to, but it still may take a few tries. Geese are also individualistic and some will like...

Sebastopol gander with poor feather quality

You could boost his protein intake, feathers are just protein mostly. If that doesn’t help it could just be his genetics.

Goose losing balance - due to too many eggs laid?

I don’t know what ratio of corn to pellets you’re supplying but corn is nutritionally poor and it takes a lot of energy to digest it, it’s sugary so they’ll fill up on it like candy over other things and essentially starve themselves. Embdens are one of the largest and heaviest breeds (17 to...

Goose losing balance - due to too many eggs laid?

Does she eat anything besides what she forages? This sounds like a nutritional issue, either not enough calcium, vitamin E or any of the Bs.

Honesty for a second I thought about feeding her to the fox. 🤣
