    Fox attack advise!

It will be back, and she will take a chicken with you standing in the yard only a few feet away if it gets a chance. I'm thinking your hen was bouncing off the run walls and that's how she got cut up.

    The hunting/fishing thread!

Went striper fishing the other day. We boated 8, and probably had a dozen or more runs that never hooked up. Biggest was 39 3/4"

    Ventilation

I would think you would need more than that in such a warm climate. Maybe others that live in similar climates will chime in shortly.

    Roaming Bear - Upstate NY

I'm in upstate NY also, and Yogi has been very active in my area. This guy is big, and took two bags of garbage off our front porch. Backyard is fenced in so the dogs do a good job of keeping him and other predators out.

    Ventilation

Is that the only ventilation that coop has is the bottom?

    The hunting/fishing thread!

Spring turkey season here in NY. Our group is doing pretty good. 6 toms down so far. Got this one on opening day.

    I need shoop building advice!

Nice setup. Just a reminder, ridge vents are rendered useless if cover up with snow. It's good to have additional ventilation.

The area in red, I'd carefully cut that out on both sides and hinge that piece from the top so the bottom will swing out. HC on the inside

I'm in NY also. I'd open both gable ends up. Or at least one if you could get some of those transom Windows open. Don't worry about the window being at roost hight. The gals will love it open from spring to fall. Maybe a awning over it if prevailing winds could blow the rain in. Transom Windows...

    Oops, I bought chopped straw.

Why not. It's not going to hurt the gals.

    Oops, I bought chopped straw.

I wouldn't worry about it. Let it get dirty, then toss it into the run.

    Feed storage

I dump mine in a galvanized can. Never had a issue.

Will chicken manure harm a mature tree?

100% correct. Easiest way to kill a tree without trying.

Will chicken manure harm a mature tree?

Your tree will be fine. The only way you would hurt that tree is if you piled used bedding around the trunk, and your not doing that. The root system is well established and even if the gals scratch up a few areas, it's not going to hurt anything.
