Are vent gleet and egg binding related issues?

Just so you know, we have two roosters, so we feed everyone grower/broiler with oyster and chicken shells on the side. Maybe she just wasn't eating enough of the oyster shells. We'll try to give her extra CC today. Thanks WR!

Are vent gleet and egg binding related issues?

There is no bad smell. The discharge looks to have cleared up. We've been giving her the CC+D3 for almost a week. She's not eating much, so my wife has been putting it on some bread, which she gobbled up. We also have given her the CC+D3 mixed in water in a syringe. She didn't take much that...

Are vent gleet and egg binding related issues?

We have a prolific egg layer, usually 6 a week. She started displaying what looked to be vent gleet - white foamy runny discharge, listless. Her tail feathers were pointed down, and she looked like she was trying to lay an egg. I came inside, and went back out and she'd laid an egg right where...

    Chicken Run Floor Material

I agree with FrostRanger here. We put down pine bark (readily available here) and it did help with the smell, especially after a rain. Our runs are covered, but blowing rain can wet the whole run. Also, we throw scratch in their runs periodically, and pine bark hide some of their delicious...

    New Chicks

I'm pretty sure you just put down chick starter and the mamas can eat it too.

    Chicken Run Floor Material

We use pine bark chips which are easily available here. I add grass clippings in piles to the runs and the girls love to scratch the grass until it's well dispersed. Drainage is important, and cover over the runs is essential.

    Vent gleet eggs

Update. We have isolated her in the garage. We brought her in and washed her vent area. We didn't notice any redness or irritation. We soaked her in warm epsom salts water for about 5-10 minutes. Took her out and dried her as gently as possible. Treated the vent area with an anti-fungal cream...

    Vent gleet eggs

Our Lucy looks to have vent gleet, with white discharge. She is laying eggs randomly and they have strange spots on them. Please advise.

Rooster injured spur fighting other rooster

Our "head" rooster, Bok Bok, has lost one of his spurs fighting with our "junior" rooster Dot, leaving an exposed piece of skin sticking out. We managed to wash off the raw place with saline water spray, cleaning it as much as possible with gauze, and then applied Blue Kote spray. We've...

48 hours after hawk attack, need advice on chicken health.

Great news. I don't know what your arrangements for keeping them safe, but when we let ours free range I'm there with them. We live on top of a hill, so hawks are always a threat. I've learned that other birds can be helpful with early warnings too. The crows are my buddies!:celebrateWhen I hear...

48 hours after hawk attack, need advice on chicken health.

These are just two stress related issues we've seen. Our Black Americana hen (we call her Rieetta) layed one fairy egg, and then got back to normal size eggs.

I've gotten some great advice from @Wyorp Rock.

This advice is from our experience with a hawk attack. There may be others here on BYC that have had different issues and can offer more solutions. It sounds like you're giving her plenty of love and attention, plus sitting outside with her should tend to calm her down. I know you've probably...
