Name 3 Things You Did Or Will Do Today - 2024

We got a Cub Cadet last year. Yeah, not quiet. But, wow! it sure does a better job than the old mower we had. To be fair, that was an old Murray, and it was given to us. It did its share of work around here.

First time with onions and garlic - Questions

I have found that any onions I miss harvesting in the fall form a seed head the next year, and the bulbs are mushy and no good. I plant onion sets in the spring. It says, "as soon as the ground can be worked," but I wait longer than that. I usually plant them, starting around mid-April, and...

First time with onions and garlic - Questions

I've read that cutting the scapes will make the plant grow a bigger bulb, so I'd cut any you find. I read (and do) cut them when they "make a circle." Scapes are yummy garlic deliciousness that comes around briefly, once a year. Not to be missed!

Question of the Day - Sunday, June 2nd, 2024

Amen! Exactly this. This is how I describe wearing make up: It's a breezy fall day, the air is dry, and you're raking up the autumn leaves. They're dusty, and by the time you're done, you can feel the dust on your face. You can't wait to take a shower and wash it off. That's how make up has...

    BYC Café

Here's more coffee. I really need it today. Hubby is working, and I have lots I want to get done here. But I sure would like to go back to bed for another hour. Or two. Speaking of broodies... Widget was broody several weeks ago, and got put in broody jail for a couple days. Snapped out of it...

    The Old Folks Home

I do that when I make hubby's lemon meringue pie. Or pumpkin pie. I have found a GF crust in the store that he "doesn't hate." But he said it kind of ruined the pie experience for him, so I won't buy it again. We had some jalapenos this last weekend that you would have sworn were plain ol'...

What did you do in the garden today?

We got a very nice rain last night, 3/8-1/2" and everything looks better. Except the bush beans. Something small (no footprints) went down the ENTIRE ROW and ate the plants down to stubby stems! :duc

    The Old Folks Home

Well, I only have the one chocolate cake recipe that I've actually made a few times. (But it's really, really good!) GF baking is... hit or miss for me. The flour ain't cheap, so I figure I have to eat it whether it turns out well or not. If I'm going to make it for other people, I tend to...

    Your 2024 Garden

We got about 3/8-1/2" of rain last night. Everything looks better! Except the row of bush beans. My 3-4" high plants are now gnawed on, 1" stubby stems. It has to be something small. No footprints. But whatever it was ate the entire :duc row!

    The Old Folks Home

I have one go-to GF chocolate cake recipe that is very rich and decadent. I don't make too many desserts, as I have all of hubby's sweet teeth. (IE, I have a sweet tooth; him, not so much, and I end up eating waaay too much of it.) I like the idea of different things in small pieces, so people...
