Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Oh how heartbreaking, to not only rehome him, but also need to explain what happened to a kid who likes and may miss him :(

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I had really girded myself for a harrowing ordeal. I mean plunging chickens, one by one, into buckets of water was bound to be a disaster, sure mayhem! But I was wrong. They all settled comfortably into the warm water as though it were routine; they actually went into a trance. Even when they...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Oh my, well I hope I have better luck. Also, we don’t have the red mites that live in the coop. Those seem particularly tough to be rid of. 😳

Elector PSP? Online, and I imagine from farm stores as well. I got my dose from the Chicken Chick because I didn’t want to fork over the money for an entire bottle.

Yup, that was another option. On the pros/cons list, permethrin required two applications, and gloves because it’s toxic on contact. Meanwhile Elector is safe to the touch and supposedly does the deed in one go. I’ll report back on the most important part: does it work.

Yah for sure I was in peels of laughter as well. I’ll let you know how treatment goes! Elector psp has great reviews.

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I checked in on them in the coop a short while ago, and everyone is nice and dry now. It’s also the cleanest set of bums I have ever seen.

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

We need to speak to Management. Last Wednesday I discovered that my chickens had mites. Poor girls- I check them regularly, but it turns out the mites are not evenly distributed, and so had me fooled. Dottie and Fez were the hardest hit, while Whiskey and Albert had none detectable, for...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

That is a lovely place to rest. Will you bury her or leave her? I don’t doubt the attacking chickens could have complex reasons for their actions- it’s interesting that you are able to go back in the footage and see that it may not have been thoughtless at all. If perhaps still brutal.

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I’ll bet your chicks, like mine due to how I’m set up, won’t integrate until they’re at point of lay. All you need to do right now is give them a safe place to live and play in view of the big girls so they don’t get bothered too much. Within a week or two there will be relative peace, but they...

Sounds like the silkie agreement has gone sour. Sorry 😕 That’s a good solution to give them the MM. I do selfishly hope we get to see pictures of the silkie chicks at some point :fl

It could work out; have your girls laid their eggs already? Have the youth/adults gotten a chance to interact in the same space, like on the lawn?

Dang it, I missed Drinks with Chooks day. ByBob, please warn us when extra fun theme days are headed our way! I would put it on the calendar and make something happen. This sorry excuse of a photo… that drink cup held not Chardonnay, but meal worms 😩 Here is someone who was not complaining...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

My experience with veterinary medicine is that you absolutely need to be a people person. Owners don’t just drop their animals off and say take my money in exchange for vet care: they expect to be involved in the care and given a say, as though you were in pediatrics taking care of their kids...
