    Feel like complaining now?

This was an email, and felt like I should pass it along. We forget how good we truely have it sometimes. I think there is a special place in heaven for parents like that! God bless them.

    Tumor or mites?

I was out feeding yesterday and noticed one hen with her feathers raised about mid spine. After catching her up, I further inspected her. I found a large lump on her back (about mid spine) raised 3/4 of inch with a diameter of a half dollar. Also on top of this lump is something hard and black...

Came home and rooster has broke leg!

Just came home from work and my rooster has either a broke leg or foot not sure. It's a shame that it's cheaper to buy a replacement than get him fixed.

    breeding question? Sex links

Okay, I know you can't breed sex links and expect the next run sex linked. But does egg production slow down if you were to breed? I don't care about color, but I do care about production of eggs. Does anyone have experience on the second breeding or have heard about someone doing so. I have...

egg layers and a game rooster?

I know roosters have two purposes in life fertility and protection. I'm more concerned about the protection aspect since I have sex links. Anybody ever tried this before?

    pride and pleasure feed

I've been using pride and pleasure since the spring and the chickens seem to like it. Has anybody had bad luck with this feed. It runs about 8.75 for a 50 pound sack. http://www.faithwayfeedco.com/default.aspx

Alittle piece of advice for someone new...

Early spring I bought a dozen chicks and like most, there was a lot of after thoughts and questions to raising chickens, but absolutely no regrets. A week or two in to owning my new chicks I happened upon this site which has been a great deal of help. So then the research began on coops, feed...

Is inbreeding a big concern in chickens?

I have 10 sexlink hens and 1 sexlink rooster out of the same batch. If or when I decide to start raising is it a concern that they probably have the parents? Unlike some of the members here, I am after eggs only and having sweet pets is not a top priority. Should I get a different rooster?

    Local price of DE...too much?

I would assume this is the right place to post this considering i'm putting de in the coop. My only local retailer for de is selling for 3.75 per lb. Is that a fair price or should I look into ordering online.

    Had to share.....

My 11 yr old son and I were out in the coop last night feeding, watering, and watching my 6 week old chicks. When out of no where my son turns and asks...... daddy why do the chickens do burn outs? I explained what scratching was and he liked the idea of them burning out better. Anyway...

    Attn. Patandchickens

Ive read your Big Ol Ventilation page atleast 10 times and still have some questions. I have a 10x16 shed and I partitioned a wall off half way back for my coop. So the actual coop is 8x10 but since there is more hot air I included the entire building dimensions. So far i've installed a 2'x4'...

    Are they stretching?

I have 4 to 5 week old chicks. And they do a one leg and wing extension kinda thing? Not sure if something is wrong with them or what. Their wing will extend fully (downward) and their leg (same side) will go straight back. It's not frequent but does happen enough that I noticed. Are they...

Well, after waiting and waiting no chicks? I think some variables mostly my fault caused this problem. A friend gave me a dozen dominique eggs and a turner. I made a incubator based off pics from this site. And nothing happened, guess I will candle when I get home to see if they even started to...

framing question on a pole barn style coop....

Okay, I'm fixing to start on my first coop, and have decided to build a open floor pole barn style coop. The question is when framing in for a window, how do you tie the top, middle, and bottom bands going horizontal to the 2x4s going vertical for the sides of the window frame? If you were using...
