Are these chicks ready to go outside?

Thanks for your reply. For the 15 watt bulb you use, and those a bit higher, to wean them off the light, are you using a red bulb?

Are these chicks ready to go outside?

I had not thought of them freaking out in darkness. I will make sure they adjust to it a little at a time. Thanks for your answer!

Are these chicks ready to go outside?

I have several 6 week old chicks. I think they're California Grays. If you can tell if they are or are not California Grays, let me know. Anyway, for the last 5 weeks I've kept them in my garage with a 125 watt red heat lamp. I'm wondering if they look old enough to put outside. I live in the...

Advice for chicks about to hatch. Keep them in the incubator?

Thanks again. Your answer was very helpful. For my other question, the one where I will have to remove the cover of the incubator to remove dry chicks, I'll have to hope the remaining eggs stay warm enough / humid enough during the time the incubator top is off to have hope they'll hatch a few...

Advice for chicks about to hatch. Keep them in the incubator?

Hello. A month back I purchased an incubator. I believe I made a mistake. I added two eggs to the incubator on April 6, another two on April 8th, another two a few days later. I have the brooder setup waiting for the new chicks. I just read where someone (not here) said to leave the hatched...

Free range quail not adapting to cage. Advice?

Good advice. I should have researched the Bob White breed a bit more. I expected the same behavior as my Courtinix (spelling?) breed. I'll give this a go. Worst case is I return them or let them free as did the previous owner with some of his Bob White birds. Thank you for the helpful advice...

Free range quail not adapting to cage. Advice?

Hello. Thanks in advance for your advice. I just bought 15 Bob White quail. They're about 2 months old. They were from a fairly large group of quail in a decent size free range pen. I brought them home where I had a difficult time moving them from the transfer container into their cages. I...

Looks like bottom side of a quail blew out causing the bird to die. Anyone seen this before?

Hello folks. Had a quail hen die today. Looked to me as if the laying end of the hen blew out. I thought maybe it was because I gave them a treat of white bread but not sure. Maybe she died and the other birds pecked at her bottom side. Anyone seen this before? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just about finished on the quail pen

Hello. Nice looking coop. My coops are about 14" high. Your looks to be a couple feet high, I hope your birds don't fly up and hit the roof thereby injuring themselves or worse. I think it's called "bonking". Maybe someone else here will say otherwise. Hope it goes well. Cliff

Looking for best way to feed meal worms and tips to avoid food wastage.

Hello. Need advice in a couple areas. First, when I feed my quail meal worms they let many drop through the hardware mesh. Any suggestions on how to avoid that? I suppose I could put then in their sandbox. Wondering if others have a better idea. Second, I use one of those red plastic Kerr...
