What did you do in the garden today?

Got a bed re-weeded (had dug out grass before planting the peas, but little baby grass seeds decided that meant I prepared that bed for them, too:idunno), and another fully planted yesterday. All of my tomatoes and peppers are in the ground, finally! I'm planting differently, this year. I'm...

What did you do in the garden today?

I had the same thing happen yesterday morning! They forecasted the low to be 41°, and when I got up and looked at the thermometer, it said 36° and there was frost on the top of my truck. So, I sprinted around watering all my plants. I didn't see any frost on any plants, but was still terrified I...

    Clear cover for chicken door?

I'm thinking about putting clear flap-type things (clear shower curtain, or something like those clear plastic door curtains that are in warehouses with cold rooms...) over the chicken door opening. They would allow the chickens to go in and out at will (until I close the door at night) and...

What did you do in the garden today?

HAHAHA!!! I've heard that they like to be close, which is part of the reason I'm not concerned. The other reason is that I have lots of space set aside for companion plants (flowers and herbs), so I could put peppers in as well. I am planning on putting all 23 hot peppers in one 3'x12' bed, so...

What did you do in the garden today?

That was how I read it at first, too and it made me chuckle! I should definitely try this! It probably would have made planting my soaked beet seeds easier, more uniform, and less crowded. Today, I went into the garden and moved all the seedlings to where they will be planted. I counted my...

    Show Me Your Pallet Projects!

I used only the amount of staples that were needed, and I'm doing deep litter bedding. I know they can dig their way to the bottom, if they fixate on one spot, but I don't think it will be a problem.

It's what I'm starting with! I'll try to remember to give an update after a while.

What did you do in the garden today?

The chicks turned 6 weeks old today. We got the coop finished up, and the run just had some finishing touches. Because the coop is done, the chickies got moved into their forever home! So, those stinkers are finally OUT of the garage! I'm trying not to be paranoid that we didn't predator-proof...

    Show Me Your Pallet Projects!

I figured out a way to protect the sacrificial plywood on the floor of my coop: feed bags. Dog food bags, chicken feed bags, bird seed bags, etc. cut down one side to open it up, laid on the floor, and stapled down.

What did you do in the garden today?

Nope, not mullein. If I had a picture of mullein on my phone, I'd add it here, but I'll have to try to remember to get a picture of it tomorrow. Today, I got to pick out a free bouquet of yellow roses that were passing their prime. I'm not normally a cut-flower/bouquet sort of gal, but they...

What did you do in the garden today?

Thank you! It's been a lot of hard work, that's for sure! Oh! Good to know! Sorry you had to go through that! Maybe... that would definitely seal up those gaps better. I'll be talking with my husband about that! They are in a brooder in the garage that has window screens for the roof and...

Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

We are working on saving up for something. Luckily, the fridge was fairly empty, so I'm not super concerned about it. But yeah... it is pretty annoying to have to worry about it...

What did you do in the garden today?

OH! I should have thought of hand warmers! When I was talking with my husband, I said, "What would we do? Me snuggling them all night is NOT an option because they are gross." :gig I'm just happy that it seemed to stay in the woods! Probably everywhere... here's a picture of the coop. The...

Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I'm just grateful it is almost all in the woods! Our shed has a tiny section of roof that needs to be fixed. All of our yard trees are fine and had no damage, which seems crazy! Our power is still off, and our fridge apparently sucks because the freezer was already thawing pretty significantly...

What did you do in the garden today?

Thank you for the help identifying them!! The first caterpillar I found was when the chicks were in their outdoor pen, and they all freaked out about it. I scooped it out before they could get too curious. Then, 2 more appeared around the house. And those flies are freaking everywhere this year...

Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

We got absolutely blasted by a storm today. The power went out, and we were able to get all my plants in the garage before tornado-y conditions and a tornado warning sent us to the basement. Once the worst of it passed, we came back up and watched the storm. Then, we went out to see what damage...

What did you do in the garden today?

We sprayed the trees last night with the BT spray to get ahead of the gypsy/spongy moth caterpillars. I doused the little trees, and got as much of the big trees as I could. A few days ago, I found this beautiful blossom on one of our old apple trees: All my seedlings are officially living...

What did you do in the garden today?

Oh my gosh! That sounds incredible!!:drool Definitely DO NOT burn poison ivy. I know someone who did, and they had such a bad (thankfully, only external) reaction to it that they couldn't really bend their knees for A MONTH!! Her legs were super swollen with a really bad rash. It just...
