Home for Polish rooster chick-Montgomery MD

Welcome 🤗 wish I lived closer as well! Would be happy to have him 😊 Good luck! Agree with previous poster to try your local LSN/Craigslist and maybe join some FB chicken groups in your area? We have one for Tennessee called poultry classifieds and egg and chick locator so maybe that will be some...

Did it have two yolks in it? Looks like it might in the photo? Maybe I'm just seeing things! 😂

    Early layer

To be perfectly honest the quality of their feed has little to do with the actual percentage of protein. What is more important is the Amino Acids in their feed. You can feed less protein overall as long as they are getting the needed vitamins, minerals, trace elements, and amino acids. In my...

Genetics of Recessive Lavender? And White/Paint Easter Eggers

This is the rooster who fathered the chick in question. As you can see his color is a mismash. The tail color is what I wasn't really certain on whether he was just blue or possibly chocolate.

Genetics of Recessive Lavender? And White/Paint Easter Eggers

So- I have been doing some test hatches of a a trio of Easter eggers. I'm am not sure what color the rooster is he is an Americana and not any recognized color. The two hens I have with him are white, one is all white with green legs with a regular pea comb, and the other is Paint with very dark...

Red chick with blue legs ?

The sex of a chick is determined by your hens. If your hatching lots of males try getting new hens from different lines. The chick sex is determined by the chromosome that the hen gives up "Z" and it's a male, "W" and it's a female. Your rooster always passes on "Z" because that's all he has to...

Any podcast recommendations about breeding and genetics?

https://youtube.com/@poultrykeepers360?si=YXooyA7pN3n2kv4U I did find this group a few months back and have enjoyed their content. There are a few others I will have to dig up though. I'll be back with those 😊

What feather type is this? Not quite frizzle? not quite smooth?

Yes- they are definitely silkied Cochins. Combs are correct, leg/feet/shank colors are correct, beak color, skin color, etc. just silkied feathers. I suspect either someone breed it in way back or the breeder that the roo came from actually had both smooth and silkie Cochins and that the roo was...

    Options for creating Sex-Linked Silkies?

I went and looked at that post but my brain works in a different way and I'm having trouble comprehending exactly which colors and crosses would result in sex links and what sexs/colors they would be for each cross. I'm a visual learner and I have ADD so having trouble with sorting out the...

    Options for creating Sex-Linked Silkies?

What state are you in? I wasn't aware people used silkies for meat? Interesting

    Options for creating Sex-Linked Silkies?

I really enjoy partridge hens. But I especially like white, chocolate, mauve, blacks, and paints. Wondering if I could possibly do a sexlink using chocolate and mauve? I think if I use a chocolate male to non chocolate female (maybe black?) or white? Not sure what all colors would work as the...

Show me your True Bantam Ameraucana Chicks Please 🥺

Thank you ;) I told my daughter to be nice to her new "brother" lol. She didn't appreciate it! 😆 So, I really appreciate that little tidbit about the blue/lavender feather shafts.... So I went and checked my chicks over for what color their were. They were purchased as lavenders (probably) and...

Any podcast recommendations about breeding and genetics?

I didn't say this previously - but I 100% agree. The entire video is him talking about how if you want the "real details" then move behind the pay wall with them to the "backside" of the video....

Aren’t sapphire gem roos barred ?

Isn't is called "sex linked" when it is a hybrid cross that can be sexed. I thought "Auto Sexing" was for purebreds and they actually breed true. A sex link does not bred true.

Tell me what you think about this rooster please? Ermine Ameraucana?

Purchased one today. I try to buy locally when I can. I don't really like shipping chicks/birds even eggs for that matter. It's just too much of a gamble for me, ESPECIALLY when a day old is 25$ plus and 12 hatching eggs are running $120+ . No thank you. I ordered chicks from Meyers this year...

Tell me what you think about this rooster please? Ermine Ameraucana?

Thank you for your input. I went ahead and purchased him. I'm thrilled. His pictures did not do him justice and he is stunning in person. Glad I got him. Really appreciate your input. 😊

Show me your True Bantam Ameraucana Chicks Please 🥺

And BTW- this handsome hunk actually isn't photogenic and his pictures do not do him any kind of justice. Glad I went ahead and got him, bc boy when I saw him in person was absolutely thrilled at my find. He is a bit of a project but I'm happy to start with him as a foundation 😊

Show me your True Bantam Ameraucana Chicks Please 🥺

They are so pretty 😍!!!! So excited to get into this breed. Planning on maybe simultaneously doing a line of Easter eggers as well. I just purchased an Ermine Ameraucana rooster today that I am in love with. He is really nice except for the beard and muffs. Which when I was looking him over he...

What kind of chick is this?

Makes perfect sense. I think I was slightly confused. Read what you were saying originally out of context I think and was interpreting it in that you meant " a bird with a crest genetically cannot also express muff/beard" BUT (LOL) that isn't what you were saying at all 🤦 lol. I think it scared...
