It was great to finally meet you and get the 2 chicks. I will post updates on their progress and introduce them to our existing flock. Have a great time on your vacation! Please let me know if/when Ursula decides to go broody again and we can work something out.
I am quickly trying to get their coop and run setup, since I lost one Rouen and one Pekin from my last batch. They looked sickly when I first got them, but didn't want to leave them behind. Even though they were just a buck a piece, it always weighs heavy on my heart at losing one.
Yeah, my previous batch of 6 Pekins turned out to be 5 hens and a drake..so it worked out well for me. Not sure on the 11 I just bought since they are only 6 weeks old.
Yeah, she came out from under the coop on her own accord. Once she did, I blocked all the access points with rocks and dirt. Scared the crap out of me since each one are like my children.
Wish everyday were like today, even though it's overcasted at the moment. Temps are pleasant with a slight breeze.
Spent the better half of the morning searching for one of my ISA Browns, Lady, who had apparently gotten out of the coop last night. There were no holes in the fencing or...
We finally bit the bullet and turned on our central air this evening. We usually wait until later on in the season, but all 3 of our dogs were panting.
We have 12 acres and I wind up building separate coops/runs for the ones that I rescue. I try and keep the males separated from the females to avoid conflict...but do keep a single male in with them.
