Thank you! I’m unable to get a photo right now but maybe it was a mouse or rat…? It just happened out of nowhere and overnight.
The brooder is in a small shed. It’s a large gerbil type cage. A rat or mouse would be able to reach through but I’m not sure they’d be able to actually get into the...
Two of my four 2-week old chicks have fresh wounds. They did not have these yesterday! The other two have no wounds. What could this be from?? Are they hurting each other? There was none of this with the other seven older chicks who were in the same brooder when they were little. I don’t think...
Maybe I’ll have to wait until there’s an egg or a crow! Im already this deep into it though so may as well keep updating until one of those two things happen 😂
Another update on my now 8ish-week old black Australorp! Any new bets on pullet vs. cockerel?
I’m just kept guessing with this bird! It’s such a sweetheart and really loves being pet and held. The comb and wattles are just SOO red and much larger than all the girls’, and very comparable to the...
Yes, unfortunately Dale will either go to a new home or into the freezer at some point as I can’t risk anything happening to my little one. i’d like to have a rooster later down the line though!
Thanks! I don’t plan on keeping him for this very reason, but my two options are either give him away and be honest if I think he’s aggressive, or wait until he’s big enough for freezer camp, in which case I still have to wait a little while. I haven’t decided for sure which option I’m going to...
Thank you! That makes me feel better! Yeah, the girls do have little stand offs occasionally but not like this. My son just started chasing them this week, and I’ve been stopping him immediately and teaching him not to. I definitely do not tolerate it, I just wanted to put it out there that the...
My 7-week old Faverolles cockerel, Dale, already seems aggressive to me, but I’m not sure if it’s just rooster behavior and establishing his dominance in the flock. Never had roosters before.
There are six pullets (all 7 weeks as well). He seems to pick on every single one of the girls. Just...
Mine was three weeks old in the above photo as well! Based on their coloring it looks to me like you have pullets :) The comb on mine was also already turning raspberry red. Here’s what he looks like now at 7 weeks old:
Follow-up question and photo update on my gorgeous cream Brabanter! Is there a way to tell gender at this point (7 weeks)? I know it’s trickier with this breed. I think she’s a pullet but could be missing things as I’ve never had a Brabanter before. Thanks!
