Yeah :/ The same hawk that killed Kiwi still hangs around my yard though, so I wouldn't feel safe having the pigeons out, which is like half the fun so we'll see.
Kiwi was killed by a Coopers hawk this weekend while I was doing yard work. I was crossing the yard and I spotted a flash of white on the ground, and when I went closer I realized that there was a hawk standing over her. The hawk took off with Kiwi in its talons but couldn't carry her far as...
I'm sorry to say that one half of the Kiwi and Peach duo is gone :(
Last week someone (I wasn't home) left the loft door open and the pigeons were out and when I got home Peach was missing. I assume he got taken by a hawk because I know he wouldn't fly off without alone without his mate. Now I...
Truth!
That's the one thing I'm worried about, since it sounds like the family is planning on keeping them outside. Luckily they live near me so they'd be easy to bring back!
On Monday I sold four of my young birds to clear out the loft a bit. They all went to a woman that's pigeon obsessed, so I'm hopeful that they are going to a good home, especially since they were willing to pay the 20 dollars each fee.
Kiwi and Peach have been slacking on their parenting...
Mine do that too :\. I have a pair of young birds that once I scare them off the loft they will fly for around ten minutes and then land where I can't reach them, and the rest fly into a tree that's over their loft. Once I get them all out and flying they'll stay out for thirty minutes or so...
Its been awhile since I last posted, but here's what going on with my flock!
Kiwi and Peach have expanded the flock with two new sets of babies that are grown now. One egg hatched last week. So now we have eight beautiful birds!
I've been taking them out on tosses, packing them all up in a...
I know her owner used to have a special whistle he used to call his birds back and it was amazing to see the giant flock just circling down to the yard.
Its kind of a sticky situation because I don't think I'd be allowed to try to trap her. Taking Bird home wasn't widely approved either and it's only been a week since. I would just be told "It's fine, there's other pigeons just leave it alone you have too many already."
I'm imagining this conversation:
"Hey um... why is there a new pigeon in the coop?"
"Oh uh, there is? Oh wow! Must have um, snuck in or something!"
"Mmmmhmmm.... snuck in..."
"Hehe.... guess we get to keep it now?"
Eeesh.... I would, but keeping Bird is already a bit much for my family, and Kiwi and Peach are gearing up for batch two. I really wish I could help her, but I'm not sure if it would go over well if I just popped on home like "Hey look, I got a NEW pigeon!" it would probably be "Nope, nah ah, no...
Ive been seeing this pure white pigeon hanging around a house where some neighbors who used to have pigeon lived. She has a black leg band, so that confirms that she came from the neighbors. I assume she escaped from her new home and came back. I'm hoping shes getting enough food. Maybe she'll...
@backyardpigeons told me awhile back that apparently Kiwi and Peach do not follow normal pigeon sitting schedule. They just kind of switch randomly throughout the day, but theres always one sitting on eggs. They are Afghan pigeons, my only pair.
I guess I could try that... I'd have to get a new heating pad since the ones I have are being used by my chicks and snakes, and it would take a lot of extension cord. I'd have to test it out before hand in a different nest box to I don't disturb the nest.
On another topic, I'm thinking of...
