It is cool, once in awhile that blue and red pops up. Then even more rare in my loft I will see a pattern that's not symmetrical. One pigeon even had different color eyes, pearl eye & an amber. I will have to look for her pics of her eyes later.

Some of mine have lived to 25, one to 27. But most die around 20 or so.

Often, the older they get, the more interesting the ceres or wattles become, or sometimes just particular breeds or strains, or more of the males will have gnarly looks to them. We Old humans get a certain look about us, too, warts, moles, wrinkles, etc. My older pigeons, nearly 20 yrs old...

When I first got into pigeons I let them all out to fly around together. The Turbits never left the yard & that's when I only had 1/4 acre in a neighborhood. The Rollers never flew far either. They'd fly circles along with the Homers, doing summersaults, but when the Homers went off ranging, the...

They are adorable & sweet, yes a great breed for newbies to pigeons. They're more of a pet, not great at flying so hawks could get them easily, though.

Love those little birds, I was given a few, the man called them Turbits & said they made good droppers, meaning when the racers are flying around & you want them to come in, you could take a Turbit & place it on the landing board or just let it fly to the landing board, and the racers see the...

When I went to my 1st club meeting, hadn't even joined yet, many were offering to help me get started with breeding pairs for free, so I got several. Also, one old timer racer passed on, and his pigeons went up for sale. I bought several & his loft, had it moved to my place. He bought his...

Many lovely varieties exist, different colors of plumage & even frizzled plumage which looks like a pigeon got a perm at a beauty salon 😆 Their eye colors can vary, as well. The colors they can see is more wide ranged than our vision. Videos I think some folks rush training. When I trained...

I'm a member of AU & a local pigeon club, so our bands are bought through our club. There are types of bands you can order with your name & phone number, personalized bands, if you don't want to join a club. The things you can learn & help you'd get through the camaraderie of a club would be...

I texted a bit with William in Newark, he sent me links I will share. He is into wood working & pigeons, a good combination of interests for loft building. The initial ad you saw was for a very tiny structure. I'd use something like that for temporary situations like injury recovery, quarantine...

Hard to tell by just photos, I always need to handle them, but in the photos they look fine. Newark, Delaware is near where I used to live, I'm about 90 miles, 90 minutes south now. Are you looking for Homing Pigeons? There are many people with Homers, you can go to AU site & find people closer...

Mostly because I just love having them in my life, but I have flown them for celebrations of life, weddings, new home blessings, cancer walks, birthdays, etc. Today I had my phone camera ready for once...one of the youngsters flew to my shoulder, played with my hair & gave me a kiss. 😆
