    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Our first ever hatch of chicks are now six weeks and two days old. The males are mounting everyone including each other. Plenty of crowing the past week. I was able to transition them to fermented feed the past four days and that cut down tremendously on the amount of water they were going...

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Some of the babies at three weeks. The amount of feathers flying everywhere is another surprise for me in our first hatch. I ended up putting in a shower stall for them when they were just over two weeks, which doubles as more sq ft area for them. Three of them prefer to sleep in there. Four of...

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

How many have you hatched out now so far? It's been three days of hatching for you or two? It was three plus for me, which took me by surprise. Going to rotate eggs differently next time.

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

These guys are two weeks old on Thursday. I opened up a new section of the pen to them today and put in some pine shavings. This is the second day they have been dust bathing.

They were doing it 😂 whether I was ready for them to or not. They've had feathers for one day and already bathing! I didn't expect it 😃🐦

My chicks are 12 days old, bedding is natural soil (mini vermicompost type set up). They are trying to dust bathe already. Should I put a sand box in for them already? I was thinking I should wait until three weeks for that and for grit.

Are you using the red lights or the ceramic lamps? I can get all the zoomed ones here.

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I read a lot of posts and articles and blogs to try to decide what heat source to use. I've got two set up. One is a heating pad over hardware cloth covered with a blanket, where they all go at night. During daylight they choose the brooder plate but they have to stand up a lot and there is no...

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

My surprise yellow babies. Three have survived and the white feathers are starting to come in on this one. This one is also particularly friendly. Hoping it's female 🙏

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I had my two largest die on day four. Looks like they got stuck under the brooder plate and didn't move out in time. Not sure I'm in love with the brooder plate idea, but the rest of the birds have adjusted to it well.

I've used offcuts of rolled vinyl flooring with puppy litters and they can really make a lot of liquid mess. They've held up great! Your idea should help protect it and make it easy to change out as needed between hatchings. Looks great!

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

My babies are eating a ton of food! Is it normal for the crop (croup) to be really full? They are all bulging with food.

A few baby photos. Two full days of hatching and I think more overnight tonight.

Thanks! The sponge idea is great. As it was my first time incubating I was terrified to open it at all ever. I only opened to candle one day, then set up lock down one day 😂. Next time I'll be brave and rotate. I think the fan is not very powerful and can't really circulate the air well.

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I tried to see what it actually says for the Janoel 12. It's doesn't state but you can hear the fan in there. How good a job it does is debatable. I only put a temp/hygrometer in one end and the temp gauge it came with is the other end. Temps were consistent for both showing the same reading...

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I'm surprised how long it's taking for twenty eggs to get to it. We had our first chick 33 hrs ago, they seem to be coming in batches of two at a time. Had one just hatch a minute ago. I can see at least three more with cracks and chicks making a go of things. So far nine hatched.

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I saw this in a previous post and did the same thing! I loved this idea. The chick still in the egg that's rolled over to cover the zip did so on his own. I took the single chick out and put it in the brooder hours ago.

    ➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I didn't realize how hard it would be to stay away from the eggs. I'm so tempted! One is zipped then rolled over onto the zip opening so it's covered now. I'm letting it do is own thing but I really want to go in and turn it over to help it! I had to put in stuffed toys with the lone chick and...
