Yeah my quail try to get closer when my dogs or cats are near them luckily my animals are fine with them but still with an actual flight instinct they should be trying to run away.

From what I’ve seen the bigger the birds the egg comes from and the bigger the egg does determine the size of the bird that hatches and grows

Actually just double checked I’m going to set on the 22nd because the ones I have now turn 6 weeks old on oct 1 if I set on the 22nd these ones won’t hatch untill the 8th-10th giving me a couple of days to do a couple of quail a day and get the brooder sanitized and dryed ready for use

So exciting! I’m setting some more on the 27th so they will hatch a week or so after I butcher the ones I have now so I can keep up meat production.

Another five hatched through the night 3 eggs left still showing life.

17 chicks out so far. Last 8 are showing life and are piped. Cross beak is doing toatally fine without looking at him right in your face you wouldn’t be able to tell he’s a cross beak

So far 2 chicks are out 1 ended up being a cross beak which is why he took so long to hatch doesn’t look to to bad will gets pics once he’s dry.

Well technically now is day 14 so I will be taking out the turning tray tomorrow but I candled tonight as I didn’t want to mess with them tomorrow after removing the turner 26/31 going into lockdown 4 clears that were cracked open and not fertile. 1 that cracked really bad and sealing the cracks...

I would definitely try to help it now and check for life.

They should be perfectly fine.
