How are the hatched chicks doing? The offer of shipping eggs still stands. From Germany it's not that far. There is a young farmer here in Germany that is doing all he can to set himself up with dual-purpose birds and not support hybrids. He now has chicks from all lines of Swedish Isbar and...
Hi,
I don't know if you have a livestock vet you can go to (or a regular vet that can order), but I got Flubenol (meant for pigs) powder. I had to take the full package, but I think it was about €30 and will last a loooong time. Or maybe there is a farmer that you could get it from.
Thank you for asking...
I know it is too early to be too optimistic, but today I took off the tape and let it out of it's chair (it was hating every second). It took a couple of hours, but it is now standing. I would like for it to give its leg a rest, but it makes a huge fuss and jumps out of...
Unfortunately, the last 2 could not make it out of the egg. And 1 of the 4 that hatched has a slipped tendon and is now in a "chick chair". I really hope we can get it to where it can live a happy chicken life. :(
Nonetheless, 3 chicks are fiesty and hopping around like maniacs. (please be...
Welcome Stiletto!:welcome
I get what you mean on the rain. It was very dry here in Germany too and I was very close to watering the garden in March, as crazy as it seems. But we got some fall weather for 2 weeks and tanked up. Now we could also use some showers here and there. But I still love...
That is fantastic news! Congratulations!
And I am in the middle of a hatch. :wee
2 Hedemora chicks are already out and there is movement in 5 more eggs.
We've had high/severe winds and rain for almost 2 weeks now. As long as we get a nice spring/summer, I can deal with that. If not, I will be complaining in September. ;)
Spring starts in a couple of days, I hope it finds all of us in Europe!
Welcome @Applesandlemons !
I know I am romanticizing, but I envy all of you in the nice sunny regions with lovely fruit trees and gardens and all. Of course it takes a lot of hard work, but it just seems very tempting to move south.
Today's (actually much needed) rain turned my WHITE...
I have been neglecting this thread for way too long!
@PouleChick I am sorry to hear of your husband's diagnosis, yet hope you can now treat the symptoms better.
Also, a belated Happy Birthday! What a birthday meal. That looked soooo good.
And, last, but not least: Congrats on the job! It...
Here is my list of advice for Germany. If anyone would like to add anything, feel free.
First of all, these are all from my personal experiece, I cannot guarantee the accuracy 100% and the list is not complete. ;)

Chickens must be registered with your “Veterinäramt”. For us it was free...
It might be worth a try! Who knows. ;)
Brrrrrrr. I don't feel so cold anymore.
Your English is perfectly understandable.
I am no expert, but from what I understand is that Marek is more common than people think. Some birds may be resistant, but even if they do not show the illness, they can...
If you need help looking in Germany, just let me know. France is not sooooo far away. We are neighbours, after all. :D
Thank you for the tip. I am really hoping my source in Germany works out and I can successfully hatch some. If they work out, I might consider getting more eggs from a...
@PouleChick
Have you considered getting hatching eggs? I know they are getting popular in Germany and it might be a possibility to ship them to France.
