QC Canada, Laurentian area, near Ste Adèle
I have some Khaki Campbell ducks to rehome. Born March 3 2023. I am in the Laurentian area (near Ste Adèle), prefer a home with experienced duck keeper, and natural water. I can send just one if you need to find a partner to a lone duck, but not one...
Do your ducks come out and eat mosquitoes on the surface of the water in the morning? I love watching them scoot around the pond in the morning and eat up the nasty little blood eating bugs.
Yup Laurentians, which is really just a big stack of rocks. It is God'a landfill ;) with a little bit of leaf litter on top to grow moss. No big surprise there were not a lot of farms in this area. (Which is how it became a vacation area, lots of lakes but no farmable land)
It always depends on how much chub they have ;) Canadian babies need to be chubby to survive outside (ducks or other!)
My elevation is pretty high, I still have freezing nights... I put them into the "summer cottage" during the day, then back into the insulated coop at night. I need to make...
I hatched some March 3 of this year and it was too soon for this winter in my area. They are not quite feathered out yet, and it is still cold, still snow.
1. That Magpie duckling is perhaps the cutest baby ever born.
2. You guys don't need more ducks, you need addiction counseling!
... But I the other hand... ;)
Gosh, I have a neighbor who moved out to the southern tip of NS. He's probably YOUR neighbor now :) I can't think of the name at the moment... I know it is near Yarmouth, but not Yarmouth... Anyway, he is a skinny little guy with a beard named Francois and his roommate is Sylvie. Call out your...
Not sure about the daughter... But a floating duck house is doable, you tie it to a rope and pull it to shore when it needs cleaning. I winch or pulley might help...
I couldn't do the "stay dirty" technique. I have 2 and they come into the bathroom to bathe in the human tub in winter. Usually...
How do you find the time to clean water for ALL those ducks?????
I suspect that 30 ducks create enough body heat in an insulated coop to be ok, but MOST people don't have 30 :lau
You could not clear the woods and build the coop next to the pond? You must carry more water than a river... *Phew!*
:hugsthank you for that.
Ducklings are super cute, but need a LOT of care.
When we got our first 2, my spouse decided (without asking me!) To give them to his granddaughters. His daughter in law loves animals, so it sounded ok.
All from adoption stories:
They currently have several cats...
Hi,
I have a Kahki Campbell pair, they are (possibly) hatching a clutch. If someone has a space appropriate for ducklings and would like to adopt them, please message me.
Please note:
I am in the Laurentian area of Quebec (near Ste Adèle)
You must have a natural pond for me to approve the...
They taste like farts! (Crunchy farts)
I know this from people who accidentally had one fly into their mouth, I have not had the pleasure myself. Never seen a chicken eat one, never see them in a spider web.
BUT!
Cold kills them, so just watch them with the cruelty only an experienced Cdn...
They squeeze in around window/door frames. Great reason to draft proof your house.
By the way, they are attracted to pale colours, so if you can change the colour of your window trim that might make it better.
Also ... This is a heavy infestation year, they are cyclical, so patience will...
I realize you've probably tried, but it is likely the company that makes crushed also sells pellets (they make crushed literally by crushing the pellets). That means the same distributor who beings the crushed can bring the pellets.
Have you tried asking (or nagging) the manager or if you can...
I am in the mountains of the Laurentians, deep in the woods. It can get nasty cold and the Muscovies did not like it. :( I now have Khaki Campbells/Golden 300, this is their first year, so we will see (fingers crossed) that they are better.
