I haven't lost any because of the cold. How did you lose them? It's been wicked here for temps too..
I have frost bite on some that have stayed out all night, but besides that no deaths related to the cold.
From the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy:
The Buckeye is a dual-purpose breed of chicken with a deep, lustrous red colour of plumage. They have yellow legs and skin, and, thanks to their pea comb, are very cold-weather hardy. While Buckeyes adapt readily to a variety of living...
Great, yes that is perfect.
Starter (un-medicated) is very much an all-flock feed. I used to do grower, but I still had to feed starter to my chicks, so I just stick to starter.
I have 170 birds myself over winter. Starter has all the same in nutrients and values as layer within the same brand, with 3% more protein. It's 18%. The only thing it doesn't have is high calcium content, which is the danger of Layer to birds that are not in need of it. The calcium is to...
No problem :) There are many scientific studies about the damage that can be caused by too much calcium. It won't always happen, but it definitely does. It even states on the layer feed to only feed to laying birds above a certain age. If that excess calcium is so damaging to young birds, just...
I don't use layer because it can cause Gout and kidney failure in any poultry not laying (especially roosters and drakes).
I offer oyster shell on the side instead. That way I don't have to worry about it.
We are going to Truro on March 22nd to deliver orders if you are interested in anything at that time. We have a crazy egg/chick train going from Truro to Coldbrook and than to Victoria Vale area.
No I don't think they need higher protein, if anything I'd imagine lower protein... Angel wing often happens in waterfowl fed the same chick feed as chickens because it's too high in protein.
I feed an un-medicated starter to everyone year round. Geese I know for sure should not have high...
I feed my ducks and geese the same thing, so yes. It's actually better for them to eat, as it's already wet. They can swallow it easier than dry.
I use it for everyone. Layers, breeders, meat birds, chicks, etc. :)
Yes :)
Trying to stick with chicks or started birds rather than hatching eggs for most of my breeds. All my pricing info is on our website. www.lesfarms.com
