Went on a mission to the local beach this afternoon so DS(4) could fly a kite for the first time. The smile on his face flying it all by himself was so pure.
DS and I spotted our first trailer load of watermelons for sale on the side the road yesterday and had to stop.
We sat on the porch munching watermelon after dinner and chickens, goats, and the pig were just as excited for the bucket of rinds.
Wasn't terribly sweet, but still tasted like summer. 😎
I don't think this counts as something that made me happy precisely, but it took everything I had not to laugh. Kids, I swear....

Yesterday was my son's birthday. We surprised him with his first trip to an amusement park. LOOONG day with MANY hours on the road, but he had an amazing time, and can't stop talking about it. So worth it.
3yr old: EEEWWW I'm NOT eating this! (Fresh pear, one of his favs normally 🙄)

I usually take it to mean they are comfortable and relaxed also. What's really funny is when they fall asleep in a pile in strange positions after a dust bath... we call it "broke chicken pile"
My son stopped while walking at a park today to mess with a bug. I absent-mindedly told him to leave it alone and let's keep going. He said "no no mom" (he's 3) and carefully turned over a cicada that was struggling on its back then happily scampered off.
