Read through the long comment from the farm. Very eloquently written. I feel terrible for them. It sounds like some of their birds survived exposure and would be carrying immunity. The fact that they offered to let them use their land and birds for testing and they refused makes me think that...
Emailed the article to myself. Out of pure safety reasons, I don’t download anything onto my phone. Will open it tomorrow on my laptop and read through the comments from the farm. Thank you for posting.
Just giving an explanation to the article saying that broilers production hasn’t decreased & there isn’t as much of a shortage in stores as there is with eggs. To get a new group of layers, it will take 4-5 months. To get broilers ready for the store less than 2 months.
Saw this article with misinformation.

The line that made me scratch my head:
“The recommended form of action is culling, which is a rapid depopulation of infected birds in order to minimize the spread of HPAI to healthier members of the...
That’s one of the reasons I’m not whining about the heat wave & dry spell upstate in rural NY. Let’s clear out AI as much as possible. I think a cool, wet summer would have made things worse.
Anyone know how Idaho is testing? There was like double digit cases this month in only 2 counties…all backyard flocks.
Wondering if they are force testing everyone within a certain radius. That’s a lot of cases in the same county for a short amount of time…
Wait. They let a fox with AI live? But they cull birds that don’t have it? Not that I want any animals to die. But if a chicken had it they wouldn’t have a chance to see if they’d survive. 😞
I think it’s because the backyard flock can pass the flu on to other birds in the yard, and to other people in stores like TSC if the owner wears their shoes there.
Thank you for posting this.
That was my understanding as well. Still planning 2 hatches before the end of June. Thank goodness for this or else Mcamurray would have lost half of their lines…would have made a terrible tragedy much worse.
