haha wife sent me that video as well.. must be viral on FB.
Put them in a fish bowl and watch them grow lol...
I have outdoor aquarium and I feed the chickens duckweed from it, but never thought about fish. They eat the water snails that hide in the duckweed.
I water twice a day, about 30 cups... it would be nice to have automatic system or water nipples like that.
Did you get the nipples from Home Depot also?
Wow small world... its a pretty rare last name... I am guessing she married a Russian Molokan descendant?
Sounds like bad husbandry somewhere up the line. Probably intensive inbreeding or poor selection of broodstock. I think rare breeds suffer from poor health because people are prone to...
yea I would agree although I dont have a lot of experience with it.
Like any rare color you have to inbreed (or linebreed) to lock in the traits... This is probably where the lack of vigor come from.
Nice
I had two gamefowl stags similar to that color. I had traded some eggs with a guy in Louisiana and incubated them at my house... unfortunately they didn't make it to adulthood. :(
I try to keep in those boxes with lid on so they dont eat it all at once...
lasts about 2 weeks... probalby longer if I kept lid open to get sunlight... but I'd have to put away all my free range chickens (because they tear it up in one day if lid is off).
wind chimes might look a little better than cds lol..
I think a good watch dog, or yard cat might deter also. I am surprised your chickens dont go after them. My stags always challenged the crow, and mama hens would try to kill my crow.
They are pesky... I used have a friend crow that I raised and he would undo everything I did.
He was scared of anything new that was randomly moving, like xmas lights, shade sails, wind chimes.
Nice. You could probably lower the canopy.... High up works good for humans but the chickens dont need it that high.. it would probably stop side-ways rain from getting in and allow for more shade.
I wish I could keep them all free range, but the roosters fight and the wife/neighbors get mad because they make mess pooping on patios and making all kinds of noise.
The ones in the smaller cages get out at least once a week. I have some larger "resort" pens I setup so they can stretch out, dust bathe and meet some hens. I rotate each day so they all get a turn. Depending on the rooster I also let them free range.
I also grow barley grass for them since...
Im in Norco. Lots of chickens for sale out here and the surrounding area, Mira Loma, Riverside and some in Corona.
I have some simple coops I built in this video. Corrugated Plastic roofs are little better than the sheet metal in my opinion... I feel they keep warmth better and arent as loud...
