Quote: What kind of chicks did you want? I'll bet we can find some closer, unless you just really want to order. Have you been to Tractor Supply Company? The one near Pigeon Forge has a different variety every week, and some were really pretty (like the gold-laced wyandottes). Here's the...

Quote: Sorry! That's why I've been stealing eggs for the bator, and breaking the broody hen's hearts. Trying to break their broodiness as well. Winter is NOT over, despite the currently lovely weather.

Quote: My showgirl has started laying again, and I have a couple of eggs in the bator, making sure the roo is still doing his job. I have 2 showgirls and 3 silkie hens in the silkie coop. I can't wait until they all start laying again!! After they start, I'll have silkies and silkies split to...

Quote: There's an APA/ABA poultry show in Cocke County twice a year, each is a 1-day only show. First one this year is May 7th. The 2nd is in November, I think. There are LOTS of chickens for sale at the Cocke County shows... Knoxville has an APA/ABA show at the TN Valley Fair, but you're...

Quote: Nope, never heard of it.... Although DH talked to a guy at the last poultry show we went to, who said something about wanting to start something up. H's been on BYC before, so I sure wish if it were him he'd have posted about a meeting!

Quote: No offense taken, didn't mean to sound 'snippy'. When I was only showing twice a year it wasn't such a big deal, since the show test is good for 90 days. But I'm trying to get to more shows, and out-of-state shows, this year so the reduction of stress to my birds will be an asset...

Quote: I do show, regularly, and want to be able to ship live birds later on. d'Uccle eggs are hard to hatch after being shipped. Just too fragile, like Serama eggs.

Quote: I e-mailed the rep for East TN and she said it's only $25 for the testing. The wait is a few weeks though, especially if the weather stays so crummy. The lady I've been e-mailing (Tina ___) said if the tester hasn't scheduled an appointment with me by next week she'll send my contact...

Quote: I have the Brinsea Octagon 20 and LOVE it! Just right for 'reasonable' batches of babies, and it's handled staggered hatches like a dream! The eco or advance? I can't afford the advanced version, or the one with the auto turn cradle. I think I can remember to turn them myself though...

Quote: Hey HBuehler! Why must you make those of us who want fuzzy butts, but can't, so JEALOUS??? I'm trying soo hard to get DH to buy me a small incubator but he says we have no money right now. I was looking at either the Brinsea Advance Mini or Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco, they're on sale on the...

Snow is falling pretty heavy in Seymour now. Big flakes instead of the little dry ones we had earlier. And they're falling straight down rather than blowing sideways. I took the chickens some overdone yeast rolls a few minutes ago. They were very pleased!

Anyone near Knoxville want 2 1/2 silkie 1/2 d'Uccle chicks? 3 days old, cute as a bug.... look like silkies, even have the extra toe. Just a tad lighter than black, though. I don't have room for them. The millie roo is now no longer allowed to free range with the silkies. Apparently the...

Quote: Drive around Seymour. There are a LOT of homes for sale that have been on the market for a while. Do they need a fenced area, for dogs? Do they need to be close to a school?
