Alright, locals! Soon I will need to get rid of some cockerels. I'll give you guy's first dibs. I have 2 created cream legbars ( so friendly you can pet them like a cat.) Then I have a black copper Marans and what is a Marans legbar cross that might have something else in him. He is big, blue...
Alright Fellow Oregonian's. I'm here to vent. Bear with me.
Today I had 6 more super rare Belgian Malines egg show up today. I was already nervous because of the heat wave. But they got here in good shape. I was at work so my son (13 yr old) offered to unpack the egg's and set them to rest...
I've been trying to. For some reason it won't let me post pics in the fashion that I did last. I'll try again later.
On another note, one of the Malines is colored in a unique way. Can't wait to see what comes of it.
Well. It has not gone as good as I had hoped. Just before I got home from work yesterday, several chicks hatches simultaneously and the humidity pinned the gauge at 99% at that point. I'm not sure if it was too much hatching at the exact moment or what..? But the inside of the incubator was...
I've now got 16 pipped and 1 hatched.
I've come to the realization that I had humidity to high during incubation. I have 3 backwards Pip's.. I hope they make it.
I've read about that a little bit. But I was always under the impression it was a color pattern thing. Didn't realize it could be done buy rate of feathering, but it does kinda make sense.
Yeah. Craigslist is usually the best way to get rid of roosters. But!! If they are from breed stock and not hatchery, it's worth mentioning what they are. Someone may have an actual use for them.
So, what do you got?
I'm hoping I don't jinx it 😬. I got 100% fertility and everything in the bator is kicking. Which is such a relief. The Malines egg's traveled across the country unscathed. I think we have 9 days to go.
Anyone else notice the high humidity yesterday? My bator humidity went up to 52% when it...
Now. The silver laced chick's in the picture are now 1 week old. I don't want to get my hopes up but they are already showing signs of lacing in their first feathers. The silver laced is what we plan to have as a staple bird on our farm. In the incubator I have 1 doz silver laced, 9 Belgian...
The Roo with the lavenders has the better tail, but the roo with the silver laced hen's has better lacing. All of these bird's are from good blood line but were not being bred in the correct direction. I plan to fix that. The lavender hen's have a damaged rose comb and a single comb. The silver...
